I would say that the farmers are not the dumb rubes you guys think they are. In America, capitalists (which is to say people who actually own capital) are never supposed to be harmed. Democratic voting and Republican voting owners of capital have been habituated to hear a politician say that things will change on their watch and there is an implicit understanding that workers and even more marginalized groups are supposed to feel pain as a result of public policy. Elections have consequences for the little people not capitalists and that is why the business community hates these tariffs, they are the type of public policy that can make capital owners poor. Even so called socialists in the Democratic party would not be nearly this disruptive towards rich people's pursuit of profit.

Steve King has been the most openly white supremacist person in National Politics. He is currently just one point ahead of his Democratic opponent in a very Republican district. If King loses, it could have an effect, at least on the rhetoric, of other Republicans.
