So you're saying if Trump pushed people to wear masks and social distance then the death toll in New York, New Jersey and the other Northeastern states would have dramatically decreased? So that I am not changing your argument.

The exact same argument I made before is why that doesn't work. Those places are not full of Trump supporters. The Governor and mayor were pushing people to do this and many didn't.

There are certainly issues that make the northeastern states unique in the high death tolls but Trump pushing folks, up there, to wear masks and social distance is certainly not what I would think of as a significant factor for the reasons I said earlier.

A bit hard to believe that you seriously do.
You don't see how you're changing my argument? I never said that Trump wearing a mask would reduce deaths in NY and NJ. You don't see the problem here? For all the times you complain about people modifying what you say you sure engage in doing exactly that.

Since you seem to miss what I do say, I'll copy and paste it: What are the reasons that New York was hit so hard early on in the pandemic? How have they been able to reduce the number of cases? Now compare that to why we are continuing to see a huge number of cases several months after the pandemic started and after we've figured out ways to mitigate the spread. The two are hardly comparable. You're comparing the start of a pandemic with an unknown virus to several months after where we know quite a bit more.

Once we address all of that we can move on. Cases and deaths aren't limited to those states, and those states are also not contributing to the increase in cases and deaths that we are seeing now.

What’s going on with the curve of deaths in NY

it’s staring to plateau

By comparison AZ

So NY has a high initial impact but has done a great job of curtailing deaths while AZ has a definitive steady increase

So what’s with that?

The number of deaths is concentrated in the northeast. Yes the curve is flattening, that is good. I truly hope that it fully plateaus and begins to decline.

But the states with increases could double or triple their death numbers and still have far less deaths than new york.

Obviously there are a ton of other factors at play.

But the idea that Trump pushing wearing masks and social distancing, by itself, would have had some significant difference in the death toll in these northeastern states (considering that those states overwhelmingly do not support Trump) is simply hard to imagine.

That was my point. In response to B boris 's implication that it would have had a dramatic impact on the death toll.

WHAT IN THE ACTUAL **** IS YOUR PROBLEM

OH NO THE TOTAL NUMBER OF DEATHS IN NY IS LARGER THAN WHATS HAPPENING IN TRUMPLAND

NO **** SHERLOCK POPULATION IS MUCH LARGER IN THOSE AREAS TOO

He’s a greedy pig that will do anything to defend his sugar daddy. All he cares about is $$$. He has no morals or ethics. He may say he does, but if it looks like a duck and acts like a duck then..

Perhaps, but I would not characterize the response like that.
India has 20,000 deaths (or cases, can't remember) and counting for a population of 1.2 billion people.

We have between 130k and 200k deaths, better/more hospitals, and almost 1 billion less people than they do.

The US response is disastrous.

Biden so far left from his original position no wonder hes a bit out of it. He'll adjust lol.

Why wouldn't you? The U.S. has a little less than 5% of the world's population and is on top with the most cases and deaths. For comparison, Japan has a little less than half of the U.S.'s population and they're currently sitting at 20k cases with about 1k deaths.

All Trump really had to do was push people to wear masks and social distance, and we could be having some semblance of normal life right now.

This was your initial statement.

You spoke about the deaths and then said "All Trump really had to do was push people to wear masks and social distance, and we could be having some semblance of normal life right now."

I simply said that is ridiculous--and it is.

I understand you want to talk about something else now, so I will address the new issue.

Now this is more focused more on cases and not as much on deaths. I think that cases are rising as a combination of places reopening and more access to testing in a way that we didn't have initially.

The reopening with people who, like before, choose to not adhere to guidelines.

To say the northeastern states aren't contributing to the cases now is simply wrong factually. There are still far more people dying from coronavirus in New York and New Jersey than there are in Alabama and Mississippi.

But states like Florida are certainly seeing a spike.

It seems that we agree that masks and social distancing would be helpful now.

It seems you missed where I said that population was a factor. I also stated I don't blame the leaders in those states. Did you miss that?

New York has a population of like 20M and 32,000 deaths. Would you say New York's response was disastrous?

This pandemic is unquestionably a disaster but most people agree that Cuomo handled it well given the circumstances.

If India's numbers are accurate that is a really good thing. Do you know if it was more masks and social distancing that reduced the impact?

Do you think there may be some under-reporting at play?

Unless it comes to families who have exceeded their term limits on SNAP then you are pro-**** dem familes
But the communities should pick up that and not expect the government to give money to people even though I take money from the government -dwalk

Cases come with deaths, which I thought was obvious. I'll spell it out clearer if we're still not sure that getting coronavirus can lead to death.

Here are some questions I asked that you did not address: What are the reasons that New York was hit so hard early on in the pandemic? How have they been able to reduce the number of cases?

Yeah, my mistake. NY and NJ managed to flatten the curve. Obviously there are cases/deaths. The point was that they dramatically reduced cases/deaths.
