***Official Political Discussion Thread***

it seems that a lot of battleground states will boil down to whether the electorate views the economy or the pandemic as the more pressing issue

I have read repeatedly (and experienced first hand last week) that in Florida, where pandemic denialism is a cultural and political feature, that the economy is the primary issue, so I expect it to swing to Trump

in the Midwest, especially Michigan, Wisconsin, and MN, the pandemic is a more pressing issue to more voters

TX, GA, and NC have more complicated issues of race intersecting all that. hard to see any but NC breaking D, but the turn-out in TX and NC particularly leaves all the past is prologue modeling in shambles

PA will be nerve racking but ultimately I think it goes Biden. I'll be doing my part tomorrow in person

Who do you think ultimately wins?

I agree with most of what you’ve said but I think Trump will take Michigan, NC and PA.

if Texas flips blue the Republicans will never win another election under the current construct. Im prepared for sweeping changes to come forth.

Texas isn't flipping blue this year. Maybe 2024 or 2028, but we aren't there yet with the demographic shift.

The electoral vote system bets on Texas and Florida always being red. Though I don’t see those flipping you’re right. They’ll redo the entire thing

For some reason there are people in the Vietnamese American community that rock with trump hard.

I'm saying this as a Canadian with Vietnamese/Chinese background.

I think some asians have conservative values by nature. Look after yourself/your own etc. There's also a lot of fear driven racism and in ability to empathize towards other peoples struggles.

I've seen them talking about stupid issues like immigration as if Vietnamese Americans didn't benefit from coming to the US after the war. It's honestly perplexing and infuriating.

Don't cast a blanket on the vietnamese americans as a whole though. I've always held liberal values and I'm sure many younger first generation Vietnamese Americans are also this way.

There won't be an economy without people to produce, buy, and sell. Covid will make sure that there aren't people to do either of these things.

friend of mine spent much of her life here and in Pennsylvania but moved out to Denver 3 years ago. she’s basically a country *** liberal, polar opposite of her parents. she told me last night it’s the same in rural PA.

economy, “socialism”, law and order.

she also said a lot of them actually hate Trump, they just hate democrats more :lol
