H&R Block: how much would you like to prepay in taxes? Don’t know how much you’ll make at all this year but go ahead...

Trump: I’ll just pay millions now just in case. Here, use this card

H&R Block: sir, ahh, that’s an almond joy....?
Nah B

When your company loses a bunch of money in a business deal, you get credit.

all these rich business guys do it. Like Bloomberg putting 500 million in ads. He probably took that as a 500 million dollars loss and so he has “credit“ for many years to come

Are you serious? Are we arguing your normal "withholding" is just a monthly prepayment on the year's taxation??

I’m very serious.

To answer your question directly, yes your general withholding is a form of prepayment of taxes.

But I was speaking more to the reality that many business owners pre-pay taxes quarterly. And it isn’t uncommon at all.

But don’t take my word for it:

Is it possible to prepay taxes, as President Trump claims he did?

Prepaying taxes you owe based on your estimated earnings is not at all what your president is referring to. Yes, you have an obligation, if you're a self-employed business owner to pay as you go (quarterly) versus a lump sum on 4/14 before you file. No one, unless you're completely inept, would otherwise use free capital to "prepay" their taxes. There's clearly a difference here and don't play dumb. Trump didn't "prepay" his taxes and its most uncommon for those who aren't self employed.

In fact, the only time I ever prepaid a tax was for my real estate taxes before 12/31 (normally not considered late until March/April) for a certain year because this dumbass got rid of the deduction. So I accelerated it.

Sure you can. It isn’t even uncommon.

You can, but pre-paying millions in taxes for a $750 tax liability is a stupid waste of business money from someone who obviously doesn't understand the concept of time value of money (not saying you don't, saying trump doesn't).

Like who in their right mind pays millions in estimated taxes for a liability of $0 or close to $0? That's just a terrible business move and I would have gotten fired by clients for doing that.

It seems you have more knowledge of what Trump was referring to than I do.

The poster said “you don’t pre-pay taxes.” You can. And it isn’t uncommon—at all.

The article I posted mentions multiple ways Trump could have pre-paid his taxes.

You don't prepay millions in taxes if you are in a loss carryover position though. You may have prepaid some due to the old Alternative minimum tax system, but you don't prepay millions.

That just ties up business capital for no reason whatsoever.

It took trump getting caught on paying only $750 in taxes for multiple years now claim that he had pre-paid his taxes on the years he claimed he paid them all fairly. What kind of idiot is going to believe that lie?

first he said it was a lie. 2 weeks later all of a sudden he prepaid the lie. Wtf??

Some ppl are guessing that Trump may actually seize ballots before ppl are done counting and justify that by claiming 'investigating voter fraud'
