It still blows my mind that all Trump had to do was issue a national mask mandate, sell MAGA branded masks (at, like, $20 each), and he would have coasted to victory. Every Trump hater would have been on board with wearing masks, and his sycophants would have tripped over each other in order to buy MAGA masks. Yet, he couldn't even do that one simple thing. He decided a long time ago that voter fraud was how he planned on winning. Turns out, battling the constitution isn't as easy as asking people to wear masks.

I and many others made that point years ago in this thread: if you want small government, pick your stuff up and move to the many developing countries that are on the planet, where cops are rented, firetrucks don't have water in them (or even gas), neighbors have to perform their own road repairs, bridges are tree trunks laid across rivers and streams, and hospital workers don't treat you if you don't have money to pay with no legal repercussions

He hedged at the end about we need to get to the bottom of what happened on Election Day to be able to “unite the country”, so he isn’t completely done with the conspiracy theory.

“Seemingly not able to value common sense or the common good” sounds about right. The thing that coronavirus and this election has solidified for me is that Trump and the GOP may not have been successful with the White House but they’ve been successful at weaponizing their base’s emotions to the point where all rational is thrown out of the window. I was talking to this conservative guy at work about the prospect of relieving/forgiving the debt. This guy who’s a college graduate himself said “absolutely not!” “This generation doesn’t want to work all they want to do is create ******** accounts and riot and loot” I explained to him that as more and more people with college debt make up higher percentage of what’s supposed to be the most active part is the consumer base and aren’t being consumers, the economy is going to take a massive hit. He replied with “tax payers without student loans shouldn’t have to enable freeloaders”. At this point I started trolling and I said, to be clear you’re willing to usher in an economic crisis and risk taking food out of your to Kid’s mouth so you can give to entitled teenagers?” He sat Their for a second and then pivoted too “we shouldn’t be talking about politics at work anyway”

long story short, these people aren’t rational. They’re trying to flip the bird to a literal meme created by tump and conservative media at the expense of their friends, family, and country. They’re okay with doing it. Maybe Dems can win over some people like the guy in the post above but no form of moderate politics or centrism is going to give the psychological help these people are going to need to get out the twilight zone they’re in.
