It should not be Snowden versus the large numbers of POC caught in the US’s wave of mass incarceration. Both groups deserve clemency and obviously the tens of millions of people, in the global south who are tormented by US foreign policy, deserve clemency as well. Clemency is too mild, in fact, these groups deserve reparations.
I see it as America’s imperialistic foreign policy is an extension of its domestic policy. In fact as brutal as our domestic policy is, our foreign policy is even more brutal and it is an even more unconstrained manifestation of white supremacy. American foreign policy in the global south is a continuation of its Indian Wars of the 19th century and the Triangle of trade in the 17th through the 19th century. The ruling class in this country sees any natural resources or anyone’s labor as there for the taking. Just like the horrors of the 19th century, America’s horrors abroad, during the 20th and 21st century, are cast as a mission of civilizing benighted peoples.

Snowden should be pardoned for any crime tied to the leaking of documents pertaining to the domestic spying program the NSA was doing and some of the other pointless the US were doing overseas.
But that is not the only thing he did
It seems like he went digging for other juicy **** he could find. And then he didn't even read all the documents he handed over to journalists. That is reckless, that could have potentially put people in real danger. I think since he did a public service, he should not face any harsh legal penalties for this.
Then his excuse for that BS is basically the same "that's the price of freedom" argument he criticizes from other Security officials. That is his excuse for his incompetence.
The dude had no issue with the NSA when he thought the NSA was only spying on foreign countries, he was cool being part of the machine until it collided with his libertarian beliefs
Snowden is the type of dude whole would support undercutting tons of black and brown people getting socioeconomic help because of some libertarian bootstraps ********. He was cool with the empire until the empire imposed on people he could relate to
Snowden is an entitled white dude that did a heroic thing but also did additional stupid and illegal ****. He could have come home, faced the music, do a short bid, let Obama commute him, and live out the rest of his life rich and free.
He wanted a hero's welcome from Obama. But Obama didn't give him that. It is not an either-or thing, but I am not gonna shed a tear for a white dude that doesn't even respect my full humanity just because he did something in the public interest.
Let Trump pardon his ***, fully smear his reputation, and let him cake off a media tour. I really don't care at this point.
Glen Greenwald is a general low-life that doesn't give a **** about anyone outside of his circle. Trump could carpet bomb Detroit and Greenwald would be on Fox saying liberals don't know real oppression like he faces in Brazil. Then go into is the usual talk: something something Hillary, Obama, drone strike, random black woman I hate is stupid. Dude is scum

Snowden and Greenwald have bad politics, no disagreement there. I think that all malefactors should be embarrassed and operationally weakened through leaks and I count the who US Nat Sec apparatus among them. I figure that Snowden would prefer to be pardoned but I agree that Trump pardoning Snowden out of anti Obama contrarianism would diminish whatever legacy Snowden might have.

This is a good podcast.
It is always worth pointing out that the US, especially the South was an authoritarian, undemocratic country until a few decades ago.
It is obnoxious when folks on MSNBC and elsewhere paint a lack of democracy and human rights as some unique Slavic pathology with Trump as the vector into America. Worse yet is when folks liken Trumpism to “Banana Republics,” America made or at least played a huge role in shaping those dictatorships in Latin America. Heck, the Soviet Union post Stalin was more egalitarian and more democratic than Jim Crow States.
