No way crabtree leaves. Who replaces him? Patton? Plus, the Niners are horrible at drafting good WR.

Why does everyone want Dixon gone?  Dude makes peanuts, and is one of the most versatile players on our team.

Also @JordanXI45
, why do you think Crabtree is gone unless he puts up a monster season?

i think some want dixon gone because of whats been in the media. His rant about how he should be getting more PT and he thinking he is better than he actually is. Soooo...all of this probably translate into dixon wanting more $$ ? (this is obviously a guess)
otherwise, if he knows his place and accepts his role to the team, i'd love dixon back.

I don't want Dixon gone, I actually like him & think he's a great part of the ST unit but just from reading a couple tweets of his, it doesn't sound like he thinks he'll be back with the team. I think some team will offer him a bit more than what he's making now and the Niners won't match.

I also think Lattimore will be taking Dixons role. He has the brighter future, maybe one day he can be the #1 RB here...Because IMO Hunter regressed this year and James will never be a #1 (we all know this).

The reason I think Crabtree will be gone at the end of his contract is that after paying Kap & Aldon + a couple FA's + 2 draft classes, I don't think the Niners will have money to match a big offer from another team. Who knows tho, I'd like it if he stays, but just don't see it, they can't keep everyone.

I also think it's just more of roster spot logistics.

We have:
RB's:
Gore
Lattimore (not sure how much he'll play in 2014 but he's still taking up a roster spot)
Hunter
James

FB's:
Bruce Miller
Tukuafu

Dixon just seems odd man out despite how talented and useful he's been. He's a player who understandably and deservedly wants more playing time and he's not likely gonna get that here with Niners unless they cut bait on James and Lattimore isn't quite ready to play a high number of snaps. I think Tukuafu is probably a fringe roster spot going into next season too unless Miller not going to be ready for start of next season.

Ideally we'd keep him and he'd be cool with his role but that's just not how things work realistically. One cause and effect of having a lot of depth at one position, players who aren't getting enough burn are gonna have the hunger to do more. All this along with how the team has to use their cap space wisely.

Dixon is def expendable especially with Lattimore going to get a good look. If he's just half of what he was, Dixon can go tomorrow

Im one of the people that wants dixon back. He may get his screens during the offense. No idea why. but he is a baller on special teams. If the 49ers can get him back cheap i will be happy to see him back, but i have a feeling that a team will pay him good and maybe a chance to start.

Sad to say this but lamichael must go. He is not a return man and he doesnt fit in the offense. Get what you can and move on.

^Totally with you Ben.  Dixon is a standout player on our special teams unit, and I would argue he is one of the top 3 or 4 guys on that unit.

People forget because of our offense's (Kap's) inability to score a TD on the final drive of the Superbowl and the NFCCG on Sunday, that we had two MAJOR special team lapses that ultimately played a huge part in us losing those two games.  I just dont know how comfortable I am with saying goodbye to one of the few great special teamers we have, especially given what I just said.  If anything, we need to solidify our special teams, not take away one of the best players from it.

Now, if Dixon refuses to re-sign to play special teams, that is a totally different story.  But for us to simply say we dont want to re-sign him is crazy to me.

Speaking of crazy thoughts (or what most of you would probably perceive as a crazy thought), I would rather us cut LaMichael James and re-sign Dixon than simply letting Dixon walk.

:p
was looking at previous draft picks and my god 2012 was a disaster

nothingtol0se nothingtol0se

No kidding :{ :x

These were the notable goofs I saw at first glance:

Round 1: #30th overall - AJ Jenkins

Since that was end of 1st round, let's look at who we passed on that got taken in 2nd round that we could have definitely used:
- Janoris Jenkins
- Alshon Jeffery :x

Round 2: #61 overall - LaMichael James
- Mohamed Sanu
- T.Y. Hilton

Edit: To clarify, I'm not saying the Niners should have taken Alshon and Sanu/Hilton back to back picks. Just pointing out those are WR's we could have had instead of that bum AJ Jenkins.

i love boobie's character but if the niners let go blake costanzo 2 seasons ago(who was a team guy, a better special teams player and a better backup at his position) then there's no doubt to me boobie is gone. he's 4th RB and emergency FB. Niners will likely draft another RB, jewel hampton will also be in the mix and another team will likely offer him a bigger role and slightly more money so boobie likely gone.

some thing is going to happen with frank this offseason whether it's a contract re-structure or possibly even being released. tough decisions ahead for paraag marathe, trent baalke and staff.

Letting Blake Costanzo go two years ago was indeed a mistake.  I see no reason to say "lets dump Dixon because we already dumped Costanzo, and he was better than Dixon."  Maybe we learned from our mistakes and are not planning on duplicating that again?  Who knows.

Rich get richer. 12 picks with Lattimore and Tank stashed from '13.

Another offseason for Q. Patton to digest the playbook and perfect his route-running.

how did you come to the conclusion that hunter regressed with the workload he was provided? he averaged 4.9 carries per game and his yards per attempt were higher than frank's(4.6 vs 4.1).

kendall hunter is more than a capable back.

Not to correct you, but we actually have 13 picks in the upcoming draft.  And like I stated earlier in this thread (or the old one), we have 6 picks in the first 3 rounds.

Please do. I value accuracy over ego.

Don't know if anyone cares but Tim Ryan from FOX will be joining Ted Robinsom next year replacing Eric Davis in the booth.

kind of sad to hear that. i actually like eric davis on 680 when im stuck in the car driving to the game. calls a game fairly and doesnt come across as a homer

still pissed that dude became a carolina panther towards the end of his career though

So E.D only working for NFL Network now?

And to red80's point, we've let go Costanzo before, what makes Boobie any different. I'd rather spend that cash on Kaep/Aldon/Crabtree's contracts.

As long as we lock up Osgood and keep the Osgood/Spillman/Ventrone trio we should be alright on ST.

Marcus Lattimore to Hit Offseason Running
Taylor Price
Senior Reporter
49ers.com

The standout running back out of South Carolina, selected in the fourth-round of the 2013 NFL Draft, was not active for any games in his rookie season. It wasn't a shocking development either.

Lattimore came to the 49ers fresh off his second major knee injury. The 5-foot-11, 221-pound running back spent his first season in the NFL on the team’s Non-Football Injury list. Lattimore was able to practice for three weeks during the regular season, but was never activated to the 49ers roster.

Lattimore expects to be ready for a full work-load in the offseason as he prepares to make his NFL debut in 2014.

“I’ll be ready to go,” said Lattimore, a former three-time All-SEC performer in college.

Jim Harbaugh, too, is of the mindset that Lattimore will hit the ground running in the offseason after using 2013 as a quality learning experience.

“I think this has been an outstanding year for Marcus,” the 49ers coach said. “Tough at times, but I think great things will happen for him.”

Harbaugh added that “there’s a path there” for Lattimore to carve out a role on the roster in 2014.

After two major knee injuries in college caused Lattimore to slide in the draft to where he was selected by San Francisco (No. 131 overall), the productive college running back used his time with the 49ers to learn the professional game from respected running backs coach Tom Rathman and the team’s star runner, Frank Gore.

“Mentally was the biggest thing for me, understanding the offense,” said Lattimore of his experience with the 49ers running backs. “They showed me how to play the game, honestly. I’m real excited about next year.”

Lattimore has tremendous talent as a running back. In college, he broke a South Carolina school record of 38 rushing touchdowns in three seasons. And while he hasn’t carried a football in a live game since October of 2012, Lattimore has a good grasp of what will keep him on the field for the 49ers in 2014.

Lattimore said Rathman wants his running backs to excel in pass protection.

“That’s the biggest thing you have to know,” the rookie runner said. “If you can’t protect the quarterback, you can’t play.”

Lattimore won’t have to work on blitz pickups until training camp, but in coming weeks, the key will be working out to prepare for the team’s offseason program.

Lattimore will spend another week in the Bay Area and then train back in South Carolina before taking part in the team’s offseason workouts in Santa Clara.

Despite missing the field in 2013, Lattimore learned a lot about the NFL and his teammates with the 49ers.

“They’re competitors,” Lattimore said. “Coach Harbaugh puts you in the mindset of when you were younger and you had so much fun playing the game. That’s how we play here. We have so much fun when we play. That’s what people tend to forget when they get into the NFL.

“There’s so many competitors on this team, I’m just happy to be a part of it.”

All of the first-year experiences in San Francisco have fueled Lattimore’s fire to become a contributor next season.

“I can’t wait,” said the running back, who felt like he could have played in December but wanted to respect the team’s long-term plans for his career.

Lattimore took a calculated approach in his rehab process and believes it will be valuable for NaVorro Bowman to take a similar path.

San Francisco’s All-Pro linebacker suffered a major knee injury in the NFC Championship game and Lattimore knows what that experience is like.

“I know we’ll be talking,” Lattimore said. “It’s a long process, but he’ll get through it. He’s a hard worker. I’ve seen him work.”

Lattimore estimated it could be a nine-month rehab process for the star linebacker, but there’s no need to make it any sooner.

“There’s no need to rush the best linebacker in the NFL back,” Lattimore said. “An extra 10-11 months, he’ll be fine.”

One source said moving Mangini to quarterbacks coach and promoting quarterbacks coach Geep Chryst to offensive coordinator was an option for coach Jim Harbaugh’s reshuffling of the coaching staff if the 49ers lost offensive coordinator Greg Roman. The source said he does not believe Harbaugh plans to make any changes.

How do people feel about this?

- i thought mangini's thing was defense sooo...

Is rather promote Chryst. Mangini was running the Pats offense during their dominance and I feel he'd want to much say in game planning and a constant butting of heads with Harbaugh is imminent.

^ Nah, Mangini was a defensive backs coach during the Pats sb runs.

They trying to intigrate Mangini to offense because of his overall football knowledge ala Mangenius, dude can break down every little aspect of every play if yall ever watch NFL Live.

Hope Marcus is as healthy as he can be to start OTAs. It's obvious lmj isnt anything more than a niche situational back and Frank isnt a spring chicken. After his 1st injury, lattimore was looking good...until the 2nd one. Worst case, only a 4th rd pick was spent on him and Kendall is there waiting in the wings
