beyond not running with cmc, what was infuriating about kyle’s play calling was constantly going empty set and lining up cmc as a wide receiver. If you want to use him as a receiver, why not a wheel route out of the backfield?

With the amount of pressure chiefs were bringing, why leave brock out to dry like that? Juice is an all pro FB for a ****ing reason, he’s an elite blocker and a 6th lineman. Romo said it multiple times, go true I formation and run it, or at least make them think there’s a threat of running.

Shanny is better than a vast majority of nfl coaches and we’re lucky to have him but ****ing god damn it this dude always ****ing out smarts himself

Between the empty back set and not having Juice in I formation to block for CMC I knew we were in trouble offensively.

empty sets on runnin downs set up the offense to fail. period.

good teams take opportunities they’re given. great teams dictate the game. we failed at every level yesterday. not one phase is to blame, but not one phase is safe from a share blame either

Agree whole heartedly with this assessment.

Y’all think it may be time to rethink our defensive personnel and philosophy? The wide 9 dline formation and all invested in it has not shown up when we needed it most. The bend but don’t break shell/palms coverage schemes gets picked apart too easily by elite QBs, especially when our dline doesn’t get home quick enough. Our defense is vanilla as hell if dline doesn’t get it done.

“Brock trash,” “Kyle trash,” “skill players trash,” “moody on XP trash”

Mirror, mirror on the wall who was the most trash of them all?

If the 2023 MVP struggled to pass against this same Chiefs team in the AFC championship game and another MVP caliber player struggled late in the game in Chiefs territory with the game on the line in the divisional round. I think we gotta acknowledge that the Chiefs have a great defense. It’s not like those other guys were picking apart the Chiefs defense only for Purdy to struggle against them. Proven veteran qb’s who are considered the best in the league struggled against this very same chiefs defense. Especially late in the game and in crunch time. It doesn’t make it any better.

Nothing you can really do but tip your hat to a great defense and a generational qb who managed to be big when it mattered most on a night where a very good 49ers defense gave him problems most of the night. But late in the 4th quarter and in overtime is Patrick Mahomes time.

It doesn’t make things better in the moment. But they have the infrastructure in place to keep the window open for a while. Some popular faces will inevitably come and go. If they can nail some of these upcoming drafts to keep the talent coming in, they’re going to eventually finish the job within the next few years.

Kyle bettnot make the same mistake Pete Carroll did against the Patriots and Jim did against the Ravens.

We are failing to take advantage of great field position damnit Kyle

Can someone in the stands pls run onto the field and clock Shanahan on the jaw

The way Kyle is trying to show off once again, he deserves to lose the lead

This is ugly

Gotdamn Shanahan getting outcoached in the 3rd quarter by his other daddy SMH

Gotdamn Kyle Shanahan is going to blow this gotdamn game again!!!!

All these posts were in the 3rd quarter, which is the moment Kyle started choking and lost the game.

This game wasn't lost in the 4th qtr or OT.

Kyle lost the game much earlier than that because the 3rd was when Spagnulo and Reid started getting in Shanahan's head and Kyle's play calling and decisions worsened from that point on.

oh wait we're allowed to have logic regarding our qb??

One last thing before I try to permanently exit last nights Super Bowl from my memory.

I don’t necessarily think Shanahans strategy of playing conservative late in the game and relying on the defense to make stops was necessarily a bad strategy. It’s just not the strategy you employ when the opposing qb is Patrick Mahomes with an extremely reliable kicker as his ace in the hole. Doesn’t matter how much success you’ve had against him the first 55 minutes of the game.

If the opposing qb is Dak Prescott, Jared Goff, Jimmy Garoppolo, Geno Smith or someone of that caliber. You take the points, trust your defense to make a stop while also knowing there’s a chance those guys may make a crucial mistake on their own. That doesn’t work against elite qb’s who are stone cold killers late in the game. Especially one who has a reliable kicker where he doesn’t even need to move the ball all that far to get in field goal range.

I know 4th and 2 isn’t a slam dunk guarantee. But keeping the ball out of Mahomes hands late is enough to justify the risk to me.

We expected Moody to miss a kick

We expected Shanny to mismanage the game.

Did not expect a CMC fumble (good play on them).

Did not expect a muffed punt (but should’ve, it’s our Kyle Williams curse).

Moody will get better, CMC will be on revenge tour dummy mode, we’ll probably sign a return specialist.

Shanny…gotta look in the mirror and make the adjustment. Or Beli will fire off that 2 peat with this squad in 2026-2027.

Yea I get the perception of choking in the SB but I ain’t with this Kyle slander. I will NOT go back to those years of Tomsula-Chip struggles
he kinda sold but hes still a great coach just cant stop himself from himself. hoping something liek an OC would help or at least an OC that is just there to help with more of the game management and decision making while kyle still calls most of the plays.

need someone to be like hey its okay to ues the best RB in the league A LOT in the SB

2026 team gon look different :frown:

Different isn’t always a bad thing. Roster turnover is inevitable. The Chiefs transformed their entire identity from an offensive powerhouse in 2019 to being a shut down defensive machine in 2023. They lost some pretty talented players in the process. They’ve also drafted well and made smart personnel moves.

Assuming Purdy is the guy under center for the next 7-8 years. Change isn’t the end of the world if you’re set at qb and that’s a constant. You don’t need to resort to desperate moves like the failed Trey Lance trade which allows you to better leverage your draft capital. Be it home grown talent, or trading for proven players.

There may be an occasional down year here and there. But the window should be open for a while. I’m excited for Purdy to have a full offseason while being healthy. If he comes back even stronger next season, they’re going to ultimately finish the job while he’s the qb.

After so much constant mediocrity from 1999-2010 and feeling like they were back in that same place from 2015-2018. It feels like they finally have it figured out as an organization to where they won’t go back to that even whenever they have an occasional down season.

#situationalawareness

Which Kyle does not have

2 minutes left, tie score, SF has the ball inside the 10 and he throws passes instead of milking the clock and running the ball ON THE LEFT SIDE WHERE #71 IS AT!

NTM, being conservative and kicking a FG instead of going for the jugular, knowing Mahomes will get the ball back with over a minute left.

Situational Awareness.

Kyle basically committed football suicide on that final 49er possession in the 4th

I know our guy 49ersaaron8 49ersaaron8 was dragging Burford through the mud this year…but he was absolutely right. Good lord he was horrific on the 3rd and 4 just letting Jones get a free rush like that 🤮

I really dont understand why everyone keeps calling a blocked XP a "miss." I have never seen a blocked kick be universally considered a miss before by the masses. Was it a little low? Sure. Would it have been good with better blocking? Yes, absolutely.

Good thing now about the offseason is we finally get a first round pick to play around with. I know we’re far out from the draft but I think we go OL with the first? Which direction should we go with our FRP
