Nothing to really say but I hope Trey plays better the next preseason game. I like Trey, seems like a standup guy. But ultimately this is a results driven league.

Still though, was never a fan of the move under the idea that they essentially planned to redshirt him his rookie year after he already had minimal action in college in 2020 as well. Unless he looked like absolute *** behind the scenes. Unless Jimmy was absolutely lighting it up, you gotta let him play and get those in game reps while improving throughout the season. Like I get the idea of not rushing him out there. But when he didn’t play much as is in 2020. Sitting another year wasn’t practical imo.

Pretty much. That season ender last year may have completely changed the trajectory of his career, not to mention Brock stepping in and getting the job done. As it stands, I don’t have him on the depth chart ahead of Darnold tbh. He needs about 2 years to polish his game and our roster isn’t structured for a project QB. Trey needs to be somewhere without the expectations we have here. I’m shocked Darnold is only 26 and already regarded as a washed up vet. Life is short in this league if you stop getting it done. Wentz, Baker, Tannehill etc…Now more than ever teams aren’t waiting for QB’s to recapture their better days.

Look on the bright side tho. Cardinals not gonna do too much winning. Seahawks cant stop the run. Rams may be rebuilding

I said it then and still say it now, Trey should have been the starter at the BYE week in 2021. You dont draft a QB in the top 5 and let him sit an entire year. That literally is never done in today's NFL. He would be so much further alone now if that happened (even if he still got hurt in 2022).

The game hasnt slowed down for Trey. With experience, it will. To me, almost all of the mistakes he is making or the issues he is having is simply because the game is too fast for him right now. When it slows down, I expect improvement. But he wont get it to slow down unless he plays. Thats why its a hard situation because with Purdy, we dont have to let Trey play. Purdy gives us the best chance to win now. We just all need to understand that Trey will likely be a wasted pick provided Purdy continues to ball out. Which I am fine with.

I agree. The only exception I would’ve made would be if Jimmy was playing at an elite level and not getting hurt. He didn’t do either of those.

It should’ve been the start of the Trey Lance era at the start of the second half of the Seahawks game in 2021. Sucks he got hurt after his week 5 start in Arizona because they had a bye after that game. Should’ve went right back to Trey after the SNF L to the Colts if he was healthy. The next game was a winnable game in Chicago regardless of who the qb was. Hell even again they should’ve made the switch after they got absolutely washed by the colt McCoy let cardinals at home.

They made the nfc championship game and played better late that season. But it wasn’t because of Jimmy. The 4th quarter of the nfc championship game where Jimmy had every chance to make an argument to change the entire conversation. He played like absolute crap once the Rams shut the run down. Just like he did in the 4th quarter of the Super Bowl which was a big reason why they even decided to consider an upgrade at qb in the first place.

If they make the switch to Trey permanently at halftime of the Seattle game (when Jimmy got hurt again), outside of when Trey got hurt in Arizona. They likely end up in the exact same place if not better. He would’ve got 10+ weeks with room for error and a veteran squad to help manage the load. He would’ve improved.

Im fine with them taking the L on the Trey pick if Purdy ends up being the long term guy. But it does seem like Trey is scared to mess up when he never got a shot where he could’ve messed up without extra scrutiny (his rookie year). Just a bad situation all around.

All that falls on the coaching and mgmt. Shanahan didn't have the balls to bench Jimmy and put in a rookie at a time when the 49ers needed to win to get in the playoffs even though everything pointed to Jimmy being a liability.

That could have been Shanahan's time to really shine, and make the executive decision to sit Jimmy's butt down and have his porno watching xxx hold a clipboard so that Trey can naturally evolve into his role and see what he could do in playoff like situations.

Remember when Harbaugh said ima roll with Kaep cause Colin couldnt do any worse than Alex.

All this tells me that Trey Lance was never Shanahan's choice on draft night. Lynch and/or York probably wanted Lance.

Kyle probably wanted Mac Jones instead of Lance. Or Kyle Pitts lol.
