no ...maybe A soda can will fit. So one side packet has a flap so feel it’s useful and the open one seems a tad bit useless - not big enough to slide a water bottle in it and the bungee isn’t tight enough to feel like I can throw something else in it.

by bungee do you mean the carabiner?
first nalgene came with a carabiner to clip onto a backpack or bag w/loop

All I can say is don’t buy the vans on jacket. That perf leather and overall quality is not worth the $800 it costs. The patches however are cool.
