Jurgen, pls figure out the damn midfield... Nagbe coming in helped Bradley a lot after struggling to get anything going with JJ... lets hope JK goes back to that pairing again, soon.

I don't understand Gyasi's first touch... its all over the place and I really don't think its typically this bad when he's with LA

Jozy put in a pretty solid 90, happy for him

Having 4 CBs on the backline isn't going to work... pls get the fullback situation sorted

When attention turns to the US men’s national team each international break, many young American players abroad get forgotten. But some of them are making interesting progress, as well as showing great personality. Adding to Gedion Zelalem, Emerson Hyndman, DeAndre Yedlin and others, here is a starting XI of under-19 players that could add to the youth sections of men’s national team.

GK – Benjamin Machini: Nicknamed “Benji,” Mallorca B’s backup goalkeeper is already familiar with Spain, having played the last season at CE Constancia in lower leagues. Holding both Swedish and American nationalities, Benjamin could become an interesting goalkeeper, considering he is one of the only Yankees in Spain. Definitely one to watch.



LB – Niko Hämäläinen: Of Finnish descent, Niko is a strong fullback, regularly starting for Finland’s U21s and a rotation defender for Queens Park Rangers. With only two appearances — a few weeks ago on loan to League Two’s Dagenham & Redbridge as well as an appearance for the club in League Cup against Charlton — the youngster has a lot to prove, but he still has lots of time to improve and get a spot in QPR’s starting XI.

CB – Niall Mason: Having grown in the academies of continental giants such as Real Madrid and Al Sadd, then for English sides Blackburn Rovers and more recently Southampton, Mason (left, above) is is already Aston Villa’s under-21 starting center back despite being only 18 years old. Capable of playing on the right side of the defense but also as a defensive midfielder, the English-born defender has played six times already for Villa in the under-21 Premier League. He has followed a strong curriculum that could eventually lead him to a spot in the American youth teams.

CB – Ken Gipson: It seems like young players of American descent are developing quite fast in Germany lately, especially this one. Gipson, a former German under-16 international and Stuttgart player, earned a move at Leipzig earlier this year. Being one of the key players in the reserve team, the young man has spent the last two 2.Bundesliga match days on the starting lineup of Ralf Rangnick’s Red Bulls.

RB – Corey Anton: At the age of 16, Corey Lee stands 6-foot-1 and is a rotation player for Kaiserslautern’s U17 team. Having made his way through the FCK academy for three years, the right back is celebrating his fourth season at Kaiserslautern in the greatest of ways, scoring twice in nine games. Though he is averaging less than 45 minutes per game, both of his goals were scored earlier this week (against Freiburg, Nov. 14th) in only 25 minutes.

LM – Panagiotis Armenakas: Australia. Greece. United States. These three countries were playing at the last World Cup, and this young 19-year-old can claim all three of these nationalities. Udinese’s winger has played four times for the club’s Primavera squad, scoring once against Milan’s youth. Missing three games due to international commitment with Australia’s under-18s and being a former Greece’s under-17 winger, Panagiotis has yet not made his choice on the country he will defend. Yankee? Aussie? Gladiator?

DM – Justin Toshiki Kinjo: The Japanese-American defensive midfielder has already played nearly 1200 minutes for TSV Munchen’s reserve teams in all competitions. Justin has been starting at the defensive midfielder’s spot for the last six competitive games and has increasingly shown great character and determination on the pitch. Will his hard work lead to an eventual appearance for the first team?

AM – Timothy Tillman: Formerly one of Greuther’s Furth most promising youngsters, the 16-year old playmaker (above, right) moved to Bayern’s youth academy in late August for €500,000. He has been worth the money, providing three goals and three assists for the Bavarians’ U17 side. Starring in 11 games and getting regular call-ups for Germany’s under-17 team, Timothy is definitely one of the most interesting wonderkids eligible to play for the US.

RM – Devante Parker: At 19 years old, the skillful and talented right winger born in Wiesbaden, Germany, has made his way through the youth academy of FSV Mainz. Now one of the biggest prospects of the team and the strong man of the reserves (14 games, two goals and two assists) playing in third tier, the youngster has earned himself a call-up with Germany’s under-19 squad as well as a small minute against Hoffenheim in September. Hopefully there will be more to come.

ST – Jordan Siebatcheu: Born in Washington 19 years ago, Jordan has been one of the nicest surprises for Reims this year, netting three goals and delivering two assists in less than 400 minutes, mostly spent coming off the bench. With a golden generation coming for France and fewer spots available on the Bleuets’ youth national teams, Jordan might get himself a call-up on the next US 23-player roster, if he confirms his spot on Reims starting lineup.

ST – Dylan Alexis Romney: On Aug. 4, Inter confirmed the loan of the French-American youngster to Savona FBC in Italian third tier. But this loan has not the best of experiences, producing only three minutes played in two appearances for a side that is now 18th in Lega Pro. Hopes of an eventual promotion are almost dead, but Dylan still needs to impress the coach. He has been on the bench for all of the games (except matchday four), and if he eventually grabs the chance he is offered, the Yanks might have a new jewel in their player pool.

that entire list consists of duel-nationals..... don't get me wrong, I'm all for adding to our stable of youngsters, but I am more focused and concerned with the development of our coaching and youth clubs at the grass roots level.

until USSF can somehow inject knowledge and experience to those volunteer coaches and never-played-the-game-before parents, our youth domestically will struggle by and large.

You watch our youth, and very few of them have the ingenuity and know how to be creative and, in the words of Bruce Arena, "try ****". By and large, our youth are very homogeneous of non pro active, one on one type players. We lack prospects in the vein of a Landon Donovan, a Clint Dempsey, a Claudio Reyna, etc.

Instead we have a TON of decent, if not pretty good players, who play in a very Bradley/industrious style, which is fine for a supporting cast. But nothing that will tip the scales in the advancement of our game.

Someday, when we have coaches and parents with the know how to develop and mold the youth of this country to play differently, we are pretty much just waiting for the next great hope that comes out of thin air. 

I believe Jurgen's big picture plan is to correct it, but there's no telling how long it will take for us to see the changes, 5-10-15 years?

I really hope I am wrong.

The youth clubs and coaches are nowhere near where we would like. I know select coaches spent time in Europe at some top academies to help better American academies. I would love to hear about what's being implemented and what changes they are trying to make/encoruage. Despite how long it may take to see changes, some plan/vision for youth clubs. The MLS is so focused on expanding the league to so many teams as opposed to developing quality.

Some academies are on the right track and that's a small amount. More and more European clubs are establishing academies in the states, which is great considering the talent they can develop but i would love to see an American academy do that.
 
isn't America hosting the Copa America next year ???? Is their a deference between Copa America and Copa America centenario..... Also if we win this tournament do we qualify for the confederations cup in 2017? ...... Help a brother out on understanding this thanks.

Who You Gonna Call?

An increase in US Youth Nationals squads should signal the widening of the US Youth National Team pool.

Last year we hoped young prospects including Joshua Doughty, Jeremy Ebobisee amid others would get a US call-in. Both seem on cusp of becoming regulars for the US U20 pool. Others including Alonzo Clarke of Akron have yet to receive a call.

Here are 16 players we hope will receive there first USYNT cap in 2016.

German-American :: '99 Timothy Tillman

US U20 – 1999 – Timothy Tillman – Bayern Munich U17

It is no secret if you follow this blog that we here at OWTY rates this German-American midfielder very highly, and we are not the only ones. Bayern paid an astonishing half million for the young attacking midfielder. Both he and his family have remained consistent to OWTY that a future in USA colors should not be ruled out, yet the Bayern Munich starlet is firmly entrenched with DfB. A call from Klinsmann and staff to play up from his age range could convince him to join for an early camp.

US U17 – 2000 – Max Rugova – Sporting Kansas City U16
We’ve seen the SKC hit-man play for over two years now and despite interest from abroad, Rugova cannot seem to get a call from the US Soccer Federation. Rugova who scored 9 times in 11 matches last season as a U14, has already netted 9 times in 10 matches in U16 division.
1999 - Nathan Wood FA Cup U18

US U18 – 1999 – Nathan Wood – AFC Wimbledon U18
English-American attacker has been excellent for Wimbledon the last month, and was recently named MOTM during the Youth sides FA Cup match. Wood is someone who US Soccer should prioritize in 2016.

US U17 – 2000 – Jose Adame – Atlas Sub 15
The Texan-born Adame has been excellent for Atlas in recent tournaments and is seen as one of there brighter prospects. To our knowledge he has not been called up by either the US or Mexico which makes 2016 a prime time to call in the versatile youth. In his first 2016 match, Adame scored twice.

2003 - Lateef Omidij - OWTY
US U14 – 2003 -Lateef Omidiji Jr – FC Dordrecht
Omidiji Jr’s name first surfaced at the desk of OWTY a fews years ago when a friend to this site who lives in Las Vegas sent us a note asking us to watch out for the speedy striker then at FC Heat. Omidiji Jr’s legend grew when the Nigerian Federation sent their top U17 scout to Nevada to evaluate the striker, his observations led him to fast track the then U12 for a possible place on the famed Nigerian U17 side. His suitors also included top Premier League and Dutch Academies. Omidiji Jr’s recent move to Holland landed him at Dordrecht. OWTY has confirmed that while Nigeria has strong interest in Omidiji Jr, that Lateef would like to represent the US if they call. However, sources have told OWTY there has been no communication from US Soccer to Omidiji Jr at this time.
1998 - Franco Mestre with Tijuana 4

US U18 – 1998 – Franco Mestre – Club Tijuana Xolos Sub 20
Mestre has bounced between USSDA San Diego Surf and Tijuana Xolos youth for many years now. He is a pivot midfielder who reads the game well beyond his age. OWTY believes he’s finally settled at Tijuana and could now begin to gain confidence.

US U23 – 1996 – Djair Parfitt-Williams – West Ham United Reserves
The last time we spoke with Parfitt-Williams he was close to obtaining his US Passport that would likely see his inclusion in the US Olympic pool. OWTY has not been able to reach Parfitt-Williams over the last few months so not update on that front. However, Djair’s stature at West Ham continues to grow as the shifty attacker has been involved with the West Ham first team on a few occasions.

US U18 – 1998 – Brandon Terwege – FC Dallas U18
Few players on this list are as confusing to me as Terwege. He has been outstanding for a well established club, in the DA, yet has not received a call up for any National side. The 6-3 Central Defender is truly a top prospect and could have similar rise as ’95 Matt Miazga in the Youth sector is given the opportunity.
2001 - Ian Hoffmann

US U15 – 2001 – Ian Hoffmann – FC Koln U15
Hoffmann has been a revelation for Koln the last two season, leading the attack in some of Europe’s major youth tournaments. He comes from strong soccer pedigree yet has not been officially called-in to any US Soccer camps. Despite playing in Germany Hoffmann seems committed to the US program, we hope US Soccer picks up their commitment to Hoffmann.

US U23 – 1996 – Derrick Etienne – New York Red Bulls
OWTY has long been a fan of the recent NYRB Home Grown midfielder. He’s excellent on the ball and possess game-changing technique not many in the US pool can replicate. He’s been heavily involved with an improving Haitian Federation. Will a call from US Soccer be able to pry him away after many years of being looked over? We hope so.

US U19 – 1998 – Sidney Friede – Hertha Berlin U19
The physically-gifted Friede has been a revelation for the Hertha U19 side starting all 13 matches scoring 3 times playing in the #6 or #8 role for the German side. He has often contacted OWTY about his willingness to play for the US, yet has not received a call-up to this point.

US U18 – 1999 – Alessandro Milesi- Shattuck St.-Mary’s U18
Milesi, a Peruvian youth team player has been outstanding for Shattuck-St. Mary’s in USSDA playing up two years at the U18 level. Milesi is comfortable at many positions, but is most dangerous as an attacking Left-Back. Milesi is a triple national, USA, Peruvian and Italian and will be one of the hottest prospects to come out of USSDA play this Spring, and due to his ability to obtain a passport should be one of the most sought after players at College, and the professional level.

US U18 – 1999 – Toni Suddoth – Vfb Stuttgart U19
We mentioned last week Suddoth has obtained his US Passport and would be willing to join up with the US if called. He’s playing up 2 years as the youngest member of the Stuttgart’s U19 squad. He’s appeared in 8 matches and is seen as one of the better Right-Back prospects his age in Germany.

US U20 – 1997 – Demarveay Sheron – Karlsruhe SC U19
As mentioned above the US U20 side seems loaded with defensive talent, yet Sheron, who can play anywhere along the back line deserves a call-up. He’s started all 13 matches and has great physical tools.
1998 - Alan Sonora OWTY article

US U18 – 1998 – Alan Sonora – Boca Juniors Cat ’98
OWTY has spoken with Alan a number of times who maintains his willingness to accept a call in to the US program if invited. Accounts of Alan’s play with Boca Youth have been difficult to obtain but sources have told OWTY Alan is as polished as brother Joel was at the same point in his development. Surely one to monitor.

US U18 – 1999 – Jordan Saint-Louis – Baltimore Armour U18
Young Maryland native has been the subject of interest from a number of French clubs. At this moment he’s playing with USSDA new-boys Baltimore Armour and making a difference. He became eligible just a few months ago and already has 4 goals in 6 matches, which accounts for 1/3 of the squads goals, playing up 2 years.

Just woke up from a nap and caught Orozco's goal. So far, we're looking a little better than last year. Our defense fell apart a couple times when Iceland got close, we've gotten our share of shots on their goal as well. Really glad these young guys are getting a look.

Pretty lackadaisical game today IMO. Not much people stood out. That goal was handed to Altidore on a platter. My pops was about to flip the couch when he tried miserably to chip the keep. Glad we got a win though. I liked Nguyen a lot today too, hope him and Nagbe keeps getting chances to perform.
 
Jurgen needs to take a page from Porter and change the formation to 2 attacking mids; play Nguyen and Nagbe behind Altidore, let them feast.
