Well he's usually at 97 throughout and the curve and change have better breaks when he's on and sharp, you know? I saw him hit over 95 maybe once or twice in those 4 innings. Maybe I should have worded it differently, they're timing the pitches better because they might not be meatballs but they're coming in very flat. Maybe that explains it better. It's the combination of his pitches not being as sharp as normal and their ability to take advantage of that and slowly time the pitches better during the at bat.

And that's not to take anything away from SF and their hitters, they've done an amazing job. But there's a good amount of data with pitchers getting extra rest and their outings being the opposite of what you expect from a good pitcher getting an extra day of rest.
