Some people prefer to leave politics outside of certain areas of life (like Xbox, NikeTalk, etc.).

Seems weird that the same people that say they hate people that make everything political are often the people that post stuff like this...

Those same people probably also conflate terms like communist and socialist too, but couldn't define either without Google, if pressed...

Back to the issue at hand, Xbox/Microsoft is a private company that has paying customers around the globe, whereas free speech (as outlined in the US Constitution) only applies to the US government limiting speech of US citizens... They have every right to limit content that they deem outside their ToS that everyone agrees to prior to using their platform (same as Twitter, FB, etc.).

Nah man, protection for private companies to do what they want is about as capitalist as it gets (especially when they explicitly state their ability to censor users in their fine print that the same users agree to before using their product/service).

Just pointing out people who make generic "commie" comments are generally unaware of what is actually Communist/Socialist and use forums for sneakers to post their half-baked viewpoints on things they don't fully grasp.

Now if the US government owned Microsoft and they made those same comments, we would be in agreement.

But they don't, so we aren't.

Edit to bring it back to Xbox: I've finally hit all 250 bonus boards in FH5 and am missing one final road (can't find any spots on the map, same thing happened in FH4). Really enjoying the experience on my Series X and Quick Resume is a game changer.

Also, as a BF fan since BC2, BF2042 is such a disappointment (even by DICE standards)... Got a refund after getting it on sale a couple weeks back and won't come back unless massive (and unlikely) changes happen.

So private companies (especially ones with global reach, like MS) don't have to abide by the same rules. Hence, those companies can censor content/speech that violates their ToS, ban carrying guns on their property, schools that don't get state/federal funding can make admission decisions not based on federally protected classes, etc.

Please don't spew buzzwords when you clearly are out of your depth, son.

I pointed out all the ways you're wrong and you have no real counter except "but communism!"

The whole point of his comments were that there are places for political discourse, Xbox Live (and NT forums about Xbox) is not one of them...

Let's just agree to disagree and move on to talking about Xbox related stuff and not the media's sensationalist headlines on something we all agreed to the first time we logged into Live...

Alright, last time, since this is obviously hard for you to grasp.

"Freedom of Speech" is part of the 1st Amendment of the US Constitution. It applies to the relationship between US government and US citizens.

No private business (assuming they don't receive federal funds) has to honor it. Please educate yourself, because you look like a fool to anyone with even a CC degree or who takes time to learn how things in this country work, without resorting to ad hominem insults...

You're correct, in a sense. Private in this instance meaning not run/funded by the US government. You're thinking of publicly traded companies, which is different.

In a new, in-depth interview with The New York Times, Xbox Executive Vice President Phil Spencer was asked about the connection between gaming and the polarization of American politics. To which Spencer said that Xbox is "not a free speech platform" and is designed first and foremost for games and entertainment.

Spencer discussed the idea of political and social radicalization with the New York Times.

"We see all positives and negatives of the human condition. We have people who propose to each other and get married on Xbox Live," Spencer says about Xbox's online services. "We also have conversations about politics and other things that happen. One of the things we’ve stated about our social network is we’re not a free speech platform. We’re a platform around interactive entertainment and video games. And we’re not there to allow all kinds of social discourse to happen on our platform. That’s not why we exist."

"We're not there to allow any conversation to happen on our platform," Spencer says, and more than that Xbox Live is simply not designed for that kind of politicization. "It's very difficult to come to Xbox Live and say, Okay, I want to go create a political party on the platform.'"

Boy do I feel silly for thinking Xbox Series X consoles would be sitting on shelves everywhere by now.

It's almost like it and the PS5s don't even really exist.

Idk man. Sure you can’t just buy one at any moment but I don’t think they’re as hard to get as some people mention. I walked into GameStop a few weeks ago and saw them and the Switch OLED sitting. Granted they were bundled with games but they were still there. My cousin asked me to help him get a PS5 and I was able to get one from Target using a Twitter link from Wario64. I don’t even have Twitter so I don’t get the notifications. I just check every now and again and occasionally you’ll see a recent link posted. That’s the same way I got my Series X. You just want to make sure CC info is loaded onto the sites of your choice to make checkout easy.
