I know they've done the Latin night Los lakers jerseys but that's moreso an all around the league to me. Alot of teams participate in that.

I really wasn't to big on the white alternates when they were introduced back in 02 but I grew to accept them over time.

To me, certian teams need to just stick with tradition. Maybe a miner tweak or 2 on their uniforms from time to time like the lakers changing them before the 99-00 season but I've always viewed the lakers along with teams like the Yankees, packers, celtics, red wings etc as traditional teams who are able to sell themselves off who they are and don't need to wear all these random alternates.

That said, I like how the black jersey looks, I just don't want to see it worn on court in an actual game. If it was a fashion Swingman jersey it would be straight to me.

Happy Bday Kobe!

On another note, I'm sure I've said this before, but the black jerseys would look much better with yellow letters and purple trim instead of the other way around. Not that I'm whining or anything, but the letters and numbers would be far more read-able and pop out more. Right now, the contrast between the purple letters and the black jersey is so little that from far away, it just looks like a blackout jersey with yellow trim and no purple.

Neither of these two uniforms would've happened if Jerry was still running the show.

When a team introduces all sorts of alternate jerseys its usually to distract fans from the product on court. I rather see moves made to improve the team rather then new uniforms introduced.

The lakers wear gold at home and purple on the road, no need for all this extra stuff. U have no problem with those fashion Swingman jerseys but stuff like that should never be worn on court for a team with a tradition like the lakers.

This is like the Yankees putting names on the back of their jerseys and introducing a black alternate. It just doesn't look right

It doesn't surprise me they're introducing two new jerseys this year. It's another way for them to stay relevant with sales/general fan attention in a "down" year by Lakers standards. People don't have much to buzz about the team (fairly or unfairly) so this makes up for that in a really vain, superficial way.

The black doesn't really mess with tradition. But the sleeved ones are a pure gimmick. However I'm not sure the Lakers would've avoided that even if they were still going strong or Dr. Buss were still around.

Jackson's possible role with Lakers
August, 23, 2013
By Nick Borges | ESPN.com

Last week Ric Bucher had an article in the Hollywood Reporter going over all the front office drama with the Los Angeles Lakers. Part of his story was cut our of the published version and one topic dealt with the potential of Phil Jackson doing some broadcast work for the team, according to Bucher.

"Right now he has no official position," said Jeanie Buss. "He wants to be supportive of me and the organization. He has no contractual obligation. He would listen to anything where he might be able to help. If we asked him to fill in on the broadcast because someone was out, I'm sure he'd do it. Just because everyone puts him as a coach doesn't mean that's the only thing he's capable of doing."

While most in the Lakers organization would welcome Jackson back in any capacity, the same can't be said for Jim Buss. Buss would likely want it to be limited, if Jackson did help the team.

"I'd be more than happy to have him on a consultant basis. I don't think we're paying him and I don't know if he has an official title," said Jim Buss. "I have no idea if Jeanie wants to sit down and discuss that. But I have no issues with him coming back or having a role."

Happy birthday mamba

Ceballos, I get your point, but the Miami Heat got all the goodness in the world right now, and they break out variations of their uni's all the time.

And correct me if I'm wrong, but Jerry was very much alive when we went to the White Sunday's.

The bottom line is today is about variety. People these days got 950 channels, and phones that talk to them and Ipods that are computers and computers that are people and holograms and ****. People want variety of everything.

Mixing in a black jersey is absolutely fine. Just like the short short throwbacks, the powder blue uni's, the darker blue uni's, etc. Jerry was alive for all that.

It's just the modern time is all. Even the Celtics are breakin out new gear lately, they got as much tradition as we do.

Hell, these black uni's are gonna be very well received, even the most ardent Laker hates have been giving them love. Not all change is bad, and I'm one that doesn't take to change very kindly, unless I see a true valid reason for it. I do here.

Now the sleeves..........those need to get flushed, asap. :lol

04 by far.

08 sucked because of who they lost to of course but in actuality that was a very good season considering how close Kobe was to getting traded to the bulls before the start of that season and how low expectations were going into that year.

If anyone had said prior to the start of the 07-08 season or during that summer that the lakers would be playing in game 6 of the 08 finals, not even the most positive of positive laker fans would believe that one.

annoying thing about 08 was that it was vs boston. from the 20+ point break down at home to almost winning game 1 before paulina returned, i still think boston was the overall better team but we had a REALLY good shot at taking the title that year and we just didnt come through.

06 is also up there for me

dont forget all the retro jerseys, heck even the los lakers stuff. the sleeve jerseys are exactly the same vein as those. this is nothing new.
