She's a good actress definitely, but I just don't find her too attractive and her 2011/2012 movie takeover got tired to me so quick.
She's nailed every damn thing she's touched. I'm not sure how anyone could be against her if she won.
Winter's Bone was about as an amazing opening performance as Good Will Hunting was for Damon/Ben
She was incredible in Silver Linings Playbook.
She damn sure was awesome in American Hustle, tho 3rd in the movie compared to Bale and Adams's performances.
She's done great in Hunger Games (tho not Oscar bait of course)
Her weakest film so far is X-Men First Class.

CP, please don't start the Jennifer Lawrence debate again. I love her but there's a segment of folks in here that don't. They also don't like American Hustle & think Wolf Of Wall St is the Citizen Kane of the new millennium.

on the real though, Kane got boring. I prefer Casablanca, but there was some great technical work in Citizen Kane. Some really awesome shots and what not.

Lupita should win (I swear if Lawrence does).
Lupita doesn't deserve the Oscar over Lawrence.
Like i have said in the past, Lupita is getting WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too much credit for her role because it's her first major role, she played a slave and was beaten in the film. It's more of an emotional vote for people then it is based on acting merit.

My sentiments exactly. Her best performance to date was in Winter's Bone with Silver Linings Playbook just a notch below that. She's been solid in everything else, but nothing spectacular.
IMO, she should be in third place for the Oscar race behind Nyong'o and Hawkins.* And if Léa Seydoux was nominated, Lawrence would be behind of her as well.
*Note: If you haven't seen it, Sally Hawkins was the lead in Made in Dagenham. A really good film about women fighting for equal pay at the Ford plant in Dagenham.

Very emotional stuff, between interactions with Chiwetel and struggles with/against Fassbender. That 10min+ 1-take scene

The Oscar for best performance is going to Ejiofor or McConaughey. They both were fantastic, as was Leo. I thought Bale was amazing in Hustle but not better then those 3.
Lupita Nyong'o was strong in her film, but there is simply a "sympathy" factor from the Academy and the general public when someone plays a role like that. They fail to look past the physical.
It's similar (not completely) to the case that was made for Robert Redford this year in All is Lost. He says 30 words in the whole film, but people loved it for the demanding role it asked of Redford.
Nyong'o's role was demanding sure, but it wasn't all that it is cracked up to be from people in my eyes. I'll stand by my opinion. I've seen every Oscar nominated film this year and while 12 Years a Slave is a great, emotional, powerful, superbly acted film, and probably going to win Best Picture...Nyong'o in my eyes is not an Oscar winner.

There's a lot of factors and moving parts in this JLa/Lupita/American Hustle/Wolf/12 Years A Slave debate.
Count me down as one who will be disappointed if JLa wins at all not just if Lupita doesn't win. I don't think her performance in AH was anything to talk about especially compared to what Amy did. At this point dudes are looking to praise her the second she shows up in the movie instead of letting her performance sink in and speak for itself. I could never say she deserves to win anything for what she did in AH. The movie itself isn't that good to begin with. Not sure what O'Russell was going for in trying to be MS lite. Wolf was great, feel good outrageous comedy but your mileage may vary when it comes to a sense of humor. A lot of ppl seem to have had way different expectations for it from expecting Boiler Room to wanting a completely different performance from the main cast. Lupita was great and a standout, it being her first time did not enter my mind, it was really just all about the story itself and how she was able to convey her character's struggle and pain. Not everybody is good at that.

Those people that wanted Boiler Room must've put no effort into finding out what Wolf was about. It's a freaking biopic about the dude that ran the wildest firm on Wall Street.

Why are you comparing Jennifer Lawrence's role to Amy's role?
Amy is up for a leading role Oscar, J Law is supporting, smaller role. Don't compare them, it's apples and oranges

I'm not comparing their roles, I'm comparing their performances. I think you know I said before that in AH I think JLa had the least impressive performance out of the main cast (Renner doesn't count). So from that view that's just me frustrated more ppl are going on and on about Lawrence as if it was an amazing performance when the main female star of AH was Adams.
Although I didn't know Adams got the nom for leading female role. She probably won't win looking at the competition.
