Original. For 2 hours, you enjoy 30 minutes, the hour and a half is you sifting thru some weird stuff. But it gets you there eventually, and you loved it.
But I enjoyed the other 1 1/2 hrs though.
I enjoyed the metal worm in the stomach and seeing that goober from Bill & Ted on his Office Space and getting his mouth erased and that pimp intro for Morpheus and the the mirror turning to liquid...all of it. The leap means something, because of seeing him punk out on the ledge. Two halves to the coin. It's hard to appreciate one without the other. It makes the world of the Matrix matter more, because we've experienced it. And it makes whatshisface...Teddy from
Memento's choice near the end matter more, because of it.
Iono, I think it's great storytelling and worldbuilding.
The problem with the sequels, esp.
Revolutions, is that they turn the world inside the Matrix into a cartoon or just a video game level. They stopped telling a story and just threw philosophical bs at a big excuse for action scenes. Now...I loved the action scenes in
Reloaded.
But it's dumb in some bad ways. And it's not singular. It leans on the next film a lot, which was awful and retroactively made things from
Reloaded worse.
You never had to turn your brain off to enjoy
The Matrix. And
Bad Boys wasn't some especially amazing movie, so it's easier for me to prop 2 up.
Can't Reloaded get that same vibe as Bad Boys 2, even if the first is technically the better film?
As far as rewatchability? I can kinda see what you mean. But on top of being a better film,
The Matrix has so many more classic moments and lines and images, while
Reloaded has some action scenes that were really awesome for 10 years ago?
