Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

Just saw the General thread. That !%#*'s almost as bad as the NBA all-star fan vote

Only ChicagoKid got his vote right.

I guess I should mention that Penelope Cruz had a nude scene in Abre los ojos. That should garner about a half a dozen votes..
laugh.gif

Seriously though, even when I tried to pick my top 5 it was pretty tough. I can see why many people in General are only basing their decision on 1-2 films.

Kev, stop making me laugh.

Ill, about this nude scene.....what'da we talkin about here?  Prime Cruz, or dirty crack hor Cruz, what's the word?
nerd.gif
I mean, is this a blink of the eye thing, or is she Sharon Stone circa Basic Instinct type film here?  Talk to me.

Like how she starred in the American remake too

My top 5, in order, with a few notes, because simple answers are overrated.

Happy Gilmore... American Beauty... Silence of the Lambs... The Boondock Saints... Dances With Wolves... Philadelphia
Only 2 lists had 6 movies I felt were really strong on MY list of flicks; this list had the most movies I could watch over and over again (Saints, Philadelphia, Lambs, and Gilmore). This list touches on history a little with Wolves, has a very 'real' feel to an iconic movie in Beauty, includes a sinister horror in Lambs and the sinister methods of vengeance in Boondock Saints, and a movie that moves people in Philadelphia... and then a very chill comedy in Gilmore. Very cool.

Well done.

Rounders... Shawshank Redemption... American Pie... Independence Day... Good Will Hunting
I'm a big Matt Damon fan, and you have two of his works. And Good Will Hunting was my favorite movie of all time until Antwone Fisher; now they're both tied at the top of my list. I've already mentioned that I think Shawshank is a vastly overrated movie, but it's still stellar. American Pie had us all quoting it for like the next 5 years, and ID is arguably the greatest major alien movie ever.

He Got Game... The Lion King... Fight Club... Boyz N tha Hood... The Mummy... Last of the Mohicans
South Park?!
ohwell.gif

This is the other list that has 6 movies I've thoroughly enjoyed, but those 6 aren't as strong as the likes of Philadelphia and Lambs, in my opinion. Mummy and King are fun fantasy, and Boyz grabbed the nation because it is thoroughly anchored in reality. He Got Game is an excellent story (with topless porn stars!

), and Fight Club? THAT... is my type of movie.

But then... South Park? No thanks on that one. Hate that movie.

Still a solid list, though.

The Sandlot... Goodfellas... Braveheart... City Slickers... The Truman Show
City Slickers...
smokin.gif
So underrated as a comedy. Sandlot takes you back to being a kid, Truman made us laugh and think about life at the same time, and Goodfellas was not only a great movie, but laid the foundation for The Sopranos, one of the most successful drama series ever. And anytime we get a glimpse into the type of bravery that has formed the world like we do in Braveheart, we've got a good movie on our hands.

#5- Dub
Forrest Gump... Dumb and Dumber... Terminator 2... The Quick and the Dead... The Green Mile
Being John Malcovich
I cried watching The Green Mile. SUCH... a POWERFUL... movie. SOLID pick. Very cool storyline in Quick and Dead, and those first Terminator movies kept everyone on the edge of their seat; damn time traveling robots.
laugh.gif
Forrest Gump is an ICONIC 90s movie, then we've got a 'Just shut the hell up and laugh' movie in Dumb And Dumber. "Nice hooters."

Malkovich put me to sleep, though.

This one is on the outside of my top 5, looking in, through no fault of his picks:
Venom
Rudy... Schindler's List... My Cousin Vinny... Casino... Armegeddon... Maverick... Titanic
I've heard nothing but good things about Vinny and Casino... but I haven't seen them. I'm sure that if I had, this would have made my top 5. I love (and miss) the 90s, and Titanic is one of the iconic flicks of the decade. Maverick is effing HILARIOUS, Armageddon is just a great story, and Rudy is one of the greatest sports movies of all time. Solid list. Sorry I haven't seen the two I mentioned.

And it probably wasn't a good idea introducing this thread to General.

"Wait... so can we talk sports in here? I don't know anyone in effing S&T, but I got tons of friends here in General, but if I want to talk about my Knicks with them, it gets moved in S&T, then taken over by those jocks."

Then that turns to... *substitute 'General' for any of our forums*

Now that was a solid breakdown Ska.

And I hear ya on the General, if you see the main post, i said  "we did it offline"   Certainly they could wander over here and look for themselves, but I'm not sure why they would.  Not to mention, Illmatic is THEE first name in the thread, they won't see him and immediately think S&T.

At least, that's what I keep telling myself.
laugh.gif

And so far, none of them have come in here and posted.  A good sign.  Hell, Franchise is in that thread, and he damn sure knows all of us, and even he hasn't come in here.

Posting it slipped my mind until ska just mentioned Shawshank again, but I've actually been to the prison that most of the movie was shot in (also, scenes from Air Force Once, Tango & Cash, etc.).

It's an old reformatory in Mansfield (about 40 minutes away) that is now a tourist attraction and ghost-hunting hot spot. Pretty dope.

No love for The Big Lebowski, ska?

Great breakdown otherwise, though.

City Slickers was a movie I learned to love when I was in the 8th grade. Ended up watching it 4 times on a flight from NY to Paris for a school trip.
