Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

I don't know I don't really require extensive character development/depth to find a movie brilliant.

del toro should replace hardy for best supporting

sicaro should replace revenant for best picture

I really don't understand Hardy getting nominated for his role. I don't think Del Toro would deserve a nom in that category either. I'm not going to remember anything about their performances 2 month from now.

With the Revenant coming out so recently and getting all these oscar nods, it's gonna RAKE in the cash from this point on. Every promotional poster/article will now have the title "12 time Oscar nominated whatever....."

I wonder why the Academy shut out QT like that this year.

TH8 was my fav movie of 2015. Even if they didn't like the movie the acting performances by Jackson and Goggins was up there by anybody.

Goggins was better than everybody in the best supporting actor category of the movies I've seen and I wouldn't even be mad if Sam beat out Leo.

Idris getting snubbed for a Supporting nomination :{ .

Mad Max deserves the praise and it's a technical achievement, but I'd pick Spotlight and The Big Short every time over Mad Max. It won't be a travesty when it loses, either.

Oh, I'm not expecting it to win Best Picture by any means. But there are definitely other noms it is deserving of.

I feel like Jackson performance in H8 was the second best of his career. Pulp fiction being the best due to the great emotional range of Jules. General Warren was just performed to perfection though. His delivery, his authenticity, all just SO on point. He is literally the only person on the planet that could have played that character so well. I feel like 50 million people could have played Leo's character in Revenant and Wilson from Castaway could have played Tom Hardy's character. That's why I think Jackson was snubbed and that's why I don't think Leo or Hardy deserve oscars for their roles.

Leo was robbed of his Oscar for Django, THAT I believe to be true.

edit * whoops this was supposed to go in the Oscars thread

The academy probably wasn't into the h8teful eight. Sam Jackson definitely deserved a nomination. The voters probably gasped during his monologue about getting his dingus sucked.

Anyone watch Brooklyn? I'm a fan of Saoirse Ronan and been wanting to check it out. Ever since watching Peaky Blinders and The Fall on netflix, i've been finding Irish women and their accents hot.

Agree with all of this

Still not sure why waltz got it, both Leo and Sam were better imo

The Oscar snubs seem a bit much this year. Agree with everyone that Sam Jackson deserved at least a nomination. The performance he gave was a reminder that he truly is a fantastic actor when given the motivation. I can see how TH8 was snubbed from Best Picture though; critics didn't love it, it was pretty damn controversial, and there was plenty of over-the-top violence that tends to put off the older generations. Personally, it's in my Top 5 of the year, but then I'm not involved in Hollywood.

If I had it my way, I'd alter the noms like this:

Best Picture
  • The Big Short
  • Bridge of Spies
  • Brooklyn
  • Mad Max: Fury Road
  • The Hateful 8
  • The Revenant
  • Room
  • Spotlight
Best Director
  • Lenny Abrahamson - Room
  • Alejandro G. Iñárritu - The Revenant
  • Tom McCarthy - Spotlight
  • Adam McKay - The Big Short
  • Quintin Tarantino - TH8
Best Actor:
  • Bryan Cranston – Trumbo
  • Sam Jackson - TH8
  • Leonardo DiCaprio – The Revenant
  • Michael Fassbender – Steve Jobs
  • Eddie Redmayne – The Danish Girl
Best Supporting Actor:
  • Christian Bale – The Big Short
  • Tom Hardy – The Revenant
  • Steve Carrell - The Big Short
  • Mark Ruffalo – Spotlight
  • Walton Goggins - TH8
Didn't remove anything I haven't seen except Mark Rylance from Bridge of Spies (because he has no shot). Really want to see Room, Spotlight and Steve Jobs when I get the chance.

But they were in to Django? Django got nominations and won one.

Says a lot about them.

Maybe they liked the plot of django more. You never know with these voters. django already had people they gave awards to with waltz and jamie. I do wanna see if Jennifer Jason Leigh gets the win, I liked her performance.

Other than her though they completely shut the movie out.

It's like we aint even asking for them to win but to at least for it to get a few nominations :{

It's a lock to get best score though

But yeah, they are disrespecting the movie and all its greatness

Watching the OG animated Jungle Book with my son. The old school, hand drawn animation is so beautiful.
