Will Smith in Seven Pounds.  He did a great job there.  I think he's a move versatile actor than his rep.  I like his work.  One of my favorite actors.

Will seems like he takes any role that will make him money, regardless of whether or not he can actually get a chance to flex his acting skills. And we all know he has a good/maybe great acting ability under there, he just mails in movies like Hancock or Wild Wild West. CP already pointed out Pursuit of Happyness. I havent seen Ali, but that's an actual movie and not just a money making project like I Robot, and the Academy seemed to like his performance enough to give him a Best Actor nom., so I'll give him that performance too.

Anyways, back to Leo real quick. Devil in the White City is the only thing I care about seeing made right now. Leo as a serial killer?

Ali was good, and I thought Will did a good job in it.  I just watched it like 2 weeks ago, but I mean, Ali was a lot like Will Smith is today, so I dunno, was he really acting?

But yes, he did well in that role imo.

Now, Leo as a Dexter type.  Almost saw it.

American Psycho was "supposed" to be Leo's next big role after Titanic.  I was PRAYING for that to happen, just to see this kid that I knew had acting in his blood from Benny and Joon, and Basketball Diaries, to do commercial Titanic, get all leading man type appeal and then piss on all that by portraying a damn nutjob killer.

But, he turned it down, and Bale stepped in.
Earlier in here I posted the Simmons comment about Leo turning down the role of Dirk Diggler also.  We've all heard the Stalone/Eddie Murphy Beverly Hill Cop switch, what other roles were there that were supposed to be for one guy, and for whatever reason another one stepped in and it completely changed the dynamic of what could have been for either actor(s)?

Yeah, it's weird how things play out sometimes. Who knows where Leo would be, or Bale, if the roles stayed the same. I cant remember any others off the top of my head. But real serial killer > fantasy serial killer. I just want to know if Holmes' story is gonna be the only focus in the movie.

Kev... Will Smith sucks.

He's always gonna be the Fresh Prince to me... And he's basically a variant of that character in everything anyways.

I can't watch Seven Pounds or Pursuit of Happiness & call Will Smith a bad actor... Maybe that's just me though.

No, Dub, I wasn't talking about Leo. He's my favorite.

What was it that really got you about Seven Pounds and Pursuit, his performances in those movies, or the scripts? Couldn't a number of actors have done those roles and still touched you, because of the stories? I absolutely think so.

And then all of his action roles are essentially identical. He's almost always trying to save the world in one form or another. Even the serious roles mentioned above, he's still trying to save humanity, so to speak. Which is whatever, I guess; that doesn't have to be a terrible thing. But... he just sucks. He doesn't sell roles to me. I think people get caught up in his celebrity and appeal overall and just credit his acting because of it. And acting abilities aside, he hasn't been in a single great movie. Few even good ones, really - mostly average or worse.

Eastwood/ James Bond
Eastwood/ Superman
De Niro/ Josh Baskin
Tupac/ O Dog (Menace II Society)

Off the top of my head.

Also Eastwood was approached to do 48hrs, said he would do the film if he could be Reggie Hammond.

Will Smith is just alright as an actor.

He's entertaining as hell, and he's had a few very good roles, but he doesn't leap off the screen and captivate you with his performances like others have.

He was great as Ali, but the script and direction was lacking. It was a good movie, but it should have been a great movie.. with an all-time performance.

Will's more of a movie star than an actor, but dude is still very talented. He just doesn't take the roles that probe all of his abilities.
