End of Days (1999)

Two things that pretty much sum up the tone of this movie:

1. There is a scene where Arnold fights an old lady
2. This is not a comedy

Yeah I know I said I was sticking to horror this fall. But it's only pre-season! Plus this popped up in the horror section of Hulu

I remember watching this in theaters when it came out and I thought it was AWESOME! I would have been in 7th or 8th grade and didn’t know Jack **** about film, but I remember it got trashed by critics/audiences and I think it was the first Arnold movie to bomb at box office.

caught it on Tubi a few months ago and while the effects were good, it really was a terribly made movie. The quick cuts and edits were unbearable, and it was painful to watch after 30 minutes in.

Better editing and maybe a slightly better script could have saved the movie. But I’m pretty sure that was when Arnold was still commanding Deshaun Watson fully guaranteed record breaking max contract type deals.

It was like the eraser, then end of days, then 6th day and Hollywood said “alright we’re done with you.” And he stopped making blockbusters or decided to be governor, one of the 2.

I gotta go back and watch Billy Madison again, it's been a while. Probably saw it something like 20 times growing up  . Mrs. Vaughn/Sonya Blade in the mid 90's was one of the goats.
she was fire. homies and I were so into her. can't forget about that tutoring scene where Billy wanted some A** so hard that he lost focus.
not to mention this scene....

I Care A Lot 6.6/8

Good movie. ****** up ppl. Ended well.

Didn't know Dinklage was in this but he's always dope as a villain.

Rosamund bae did her thing. Playing the evil women way too well. Gone Girl but worse.

Played Star Wars Fallen Order for the first time, went Luke-Return-of-the-Jedi green for my light saber colorway just SERENE, roommate said you can expand to like orange, yellow, etc. later

Man, I really really really want to like Licorice Pizza but I can’t. It’s taken me two days to finish a film that is very charming and innocent yet feels like it’s setting me/us the audience up for failure.
Setting us up to accept something that is otherwise looked down upon either by natural moral compass or the simple facts that laws tell us where consent ends and begins therefore it’s always in the back of our heads that something is off. To have this uneasy feeling that I’m openly turning a blind eye to something so underlying and perverse, God Damn Paul Anderson, you really did it. I wasn’t even that sure I didn’t like it, I’m still not, BUT…..I tell you what I really can’t digest is Paul Tomas Anderson’s response to not even backlash but instead just natural concern and questions about the films choices, really is kind of a very cool eloquent way of showing how big of an ******* he is being and it seems intentionally f’ed. On two separate occasions the films choices sent me down review road to see just how he got away with these choices, and of course he didn’t.
His reactions to both, neither were issues of him NOT being able to see the situations from the other side but rather purposefully ignoring the fact that he’s creating real issues by not acknowledging that there is something off here, and that feels like he’s desensitizing audiences to something that is really not okay. The first big not okay moment (which happens twice in the film) is when Higgins character who is a role model to the 15yr old that is “being groomed” is having lunch with the group and he turned to his Asian wife and asks her a question in a really bad accent that mocks Asian accents in general. His reaction is hereThe second not okay moment is rife throughout the whole film and thats the 10yr age gap that wouldn’t be a big deal were it between an 18yr old and a 28yr old as opposed to a 15yr old Male and a 25yr old Woman. I also don’t think people would be as understanding if it were a 15yr old girl getting “ groomed”by a 25yr old Male. His reaction hereAs someone who not long ago made comments that were racially insensitive and very disturbing and not able to see the error in my ways or thinking at the time I made the comments, I think I’m a little more apt to understand Paul T Anderson’s intentions or just lack of understanding YET STILL, I believe he understands the choices and what they could mean and specifically and purposely decided to toe the line and not accept responsibility for the feelings that are conjured up by what his film is or isn’t saying. It feels like he knows the sky is blue and he’s trying to pretend that he’s color blind. Other than that, Alana is super charming and I can tell why she’s such a good writer. She has that same genuine connection with her audience from both the acting and writing side that’s undeniable when you watch her work. Lena Dunham, Issa Rae and Lena Waithe all have that same quality. There’s brilliance there whether you appreciate the Story or the Content.

Dang, all of this Licorice Pizza talk is going to make me check it out

I tend to stay away from "love letter" type movies though. Culturally they just seem so out of touch (a la Woody Allen's New York films)
