Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

Started having a weekly 'movie night' with the kid in November.
Was Wednesday. Recently switched to Thursday. I know most people do Friday night or Saturday night, but that doesn't work for us because he's with his mom on the weekends.

How do you pick each week? My daughter and I each threw all of our favorites, stuff we haven't seen but want to see again, and stuff we want to see for the first time in a tin. Each movie night we draw one or two out and watch those. Each time something we forgot pops up we just drop it in. We sometimes will randomly pick something in streaming but 99% of the time we go the random draw method.

We've been doing this maybe two years and it never gets empty because we always add 😂. Now It's still halfway full and I don't think we'll finish before she leaves me in August for school 🥹 Been a dope experience though we've been able to watch about 80 movies together.

darthska darthska He’ll love Airplane if he likes that absurdist comedy :lol did you guys like Butterfly Effect? I might’ve asked you this before but can’t remember. Haven’t seen it.

I guess I have only seen the “good” Tyler Perry films (Why Did I get Married, Good Deeds) because I finally watched his first film, Diary of a Mad Black Woman. He has to be the worst writer in America. The worst writer in film.

I was on this shock watch campaign a few summers ago watching and clowning the writing and acting from one of his shows called RUTHLESS and buddy, I couldn’t believe he was getting away with dropping that kind of content. I hear he’s got the NICEST STUDIOS in FILM. Dude definitely is putting out some content but if it’s all like RUTHLESS and DIARY of a MAD BLACK WOMAN and less like WHY Did I Get Married and GOOD DEEDS then I can’t understand how folks are supporting this.

This thread title says "...allow me a movie..."

Okay, I'm going on a very long jag here. It was announced that Romy & Michele's High School Reunion is getting a sequel. I am 100% on board with it, as the original is probably my favorite rom-com of all time, and really well written and performed. Lisa Kudrow, nearing the absolute height of Friends fame, and Mira Sorvino, coming off an Oscar, were amazing in it. Let's talk about Mira, though:

1995: Mighty Aphrodite (wins Best Supporting Actress at the 1996 Oscars, she's only 28 years old)

She follows it up with:

Romy & Michele's High School Reunion (1997): this solidifies her as a bona fide comedic actress. Not a hit, but well received, and gained a following over the years.

Mimic (1997): Body horror movie, and Del Toro's English language directing debut. She does a phenomenal job as a scientist searching for the humanoid roaches in the NYC subways. Terrifying movie, and she sells it so well.

The Replacement Killers (1998 ): Stars alongside Chow Yun-fat and Michael Rooker in a Hong Kong-style action movie. She crushes it.

We're talking just a murderer's row of films, and delivers across three genres....then Harven Weinstein kills her career in an instant because she refused his advances (after assaulting her).

Here's what Paul Sorvino, an actor you probably didn't want to mess with, said about Harvey:, afer he found out what he did to his daughter:

"If I meet [Weinstein] on the street—he oughta hope that he goes to jail, because if we come across, I think he'll be lying on the floor, somehow, magically," Paul Sorvino told TMZ. He later added, "He's going to go to jail. Oh yeah. That son of a *****. Good for him if he goes, because if not, he has to meet me. And I will kill the motherf---er. Real simple."

I’ve been hearing about this movie being a masterpiece for the last 20 years. I’ve NEVER seen it streaming on any services or playing on cable. Before I go hunting, I need the actual NT opinion on it. Is it worth the hype? Or is it just kind good for an indie flick?
