Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

OK I'll bite on "The Hurt Locker" talk.

A. It was very realistic.
B. VERY OVERRATED. Let's be serious, this movie along with "The Kingdom" (which is liked much better) and a slew of others were getting much more attention then normal because of our situation over in Iraq.
C. Jeremy Renner and Anthony Mackie were solid in the film, but it dragged and just didn't satisfy me. Also it won the Oscar because the field it competed with was very very weak.

I'm not a big fan of the film

this is insane....

this is pretty much the story of V-Tech shooting...going to be received with a very touchy, no one wants to talk about this film kind of way. I hope it's well made, because of the nature of the topic.

Started out wayyyyy too slow. Didnt build up anything but the main character and her struggles, which was okay, but they didnt need to move so slow for that. Good movie though, like you said the acting was top notch. Apparently a lot of extras/the kids were all from that Ozark area, too. I thought that was cool.
Yeah...I got kinda pissed when King Kong was fighting a dinosaur in his movie

Fellas...what about suspending your disbelief??  I took the Hurt Locker at face value...a good movie that was INTENSE and most importantly....entertaining.  Of course there were inaccuracies, but if I looked at every movie I watched with a overly critical eye, I'd hate all of cinema.
Thank you. God, people acting like the details have to be perfect to have a great movie. Cant let something so minimal as he doesnt get yelled at ruin it for you. Doesnt change the fact that the movie was intense and acted out very well, with a gripping story. The first scene at the market had me more uneasy than any horror movie ever has.

I didn't think this thread would be that hard to keep up with

I don't look at it all day and I've already missed a good amount of discussion... what a great problem to have
laugh.gif

On this page's discussion, The Hurt Locker was overrated in my opinion. It got huge support because it was about Iraq and people ate it up. It was good but not great. Forgettable for a Best Picture winner for sure.

On the other hand, The Social Network was near flawless. Well acted, scripted, sound/music, all great. Probably my favorite movie of 2010.

Winters Bone was really really good.

Jennifer Lawrence is a star in the making.

Her performance was tremendous, people tried to discredit her and it was very unjust. The story starts off slow, but it picks up and very well made.

I think it really really helped the Hurt Locker out that Precious and the %*%##$* Blind Side were nominated for Best Picture that year too. Then there's Avatar. Anyone who cared about the Oscars, convinced themselves Hurt Locker was amazing, just because it's better than Avatar winning. Looking back...I think Avatar was more overhyped than it was overrated. Even if it's a pretty simple movie.

You brought a good point. Who's gonna play Arturo Gatti? ... I'd want Gael Garcia Bernal, but he'd act Mark off the screen like everyone from the first one did.

20th Century Fox has targeted David Slade to helm the studio's reboot of the Marvel property Daredevil. ComingSoon.net has confirmed that, while no deal is in place, Slade is very likely the man for the job.

Though previously adapted by the studio in a 2003 version starring Ben Affleck in the lead, this version of
Daredevil will reboot the franchise and will not be connected to the previous Mark Steven Johnson film (or the 2005 spinoff, Elektra).

As reported
just over a year ago, Fox needs to have a Dardevil film in production in order to keep the rights from reverting to Marvel Studios (now owned by Walt Disney Pictures).

Slade, who made his feature debut with 2005's Hard Candy, previously tackled a comic book adaptation with 2007's 30 Days of Night. Since that film, he's been in Vampire-mode, turning in last year's The Twilight Saga: Eclipse and was,
last month connected to the "Dracula" tale

This is crap.

I liked the OG Daredevil, and they shoulda kept pushing forward with Ben and Elektra as they were in further movies.

Not to mention this was one of Colin Farrell's best performances.  He was freaking fantastic as Bullseye.

Daredevil blew. Ben blew. Farrell blew. Garner's acting blew but she's Jennifer Garner so it's forgivable. I was mad when I spent 2 hours to watch that movie.

It's harder to suspend belief when you are watching a movie about a war. Especially while the war is still happening. I like my war movies as accurate as can be unless it isn't presented as fact (Inglorious Basterds)

it's not the same thing as complaining about details in different genres

wow page 30 already

I was one of the few people on Earth who liked the Elektra spinoff.  But I think I was too blindsided by Garner's hot bod.

Arturo Gatti is going to be the key role in this film, he will prob be the equivalent of Dicky. As far as magnitude and relevance.

So it's gotta be someone big or at least up and coming with serious acting chops. Then again, it can't be one of Hollywood's pretty boys cause Gatti was a mess in the face.

One guy that comes to mind is Kuno Becker, he starred in "Goal! The Dream Begins" and other stuff, I don't know why but his name popped into my head.

Also John Leguizamo for a more recognizable name, and face, but I don't know if he would want to do a role like this.

Benicio Del Toro has the face to play Gatti but he may be too old...

What do you think of the names I mentioned?
