Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

Highly recommend Side by Side
The documentary investigates the history, process and workflow of both digital and photochemical film creation. It shows what artists and filmmakers have been able to accomplish with both film and digital and how their needs and innovations have helped push filmmaking in new directions. Interviews with directors, cinematographers, colorists, scientists, engineers and artists reveal their experiences and feelings about working with film and digital — where we are now, how we got here and what the future may bring
Interviews with Scorsese, Fincher, Cameron, Lucas, Lynch, and plenty others. If you're unaware of the debate between film vs. digital, this is a great documentary to bring you up to speed and offer a pretty fair representation of both sides. Some brilliant points made about the experience of movies, the democratization of filmmaking, the future of movies and what the format transition means to everyone.

So I felt the need to watch Argo before tonight's show, because I just don't see the hype in it in comparison to the praise it's getting.

Sure enough, after watching it this morning, I do NOT think it is movie of year, not by a long shot. Granted, we all know the plots outcome of what happened because it is based on a true story, but I felt no tension at all with the whole freeing process with the use of fake passports and all that. Just none at all. Movie was mediocre at best, and is really annoying me that it's gotten such strong praise. Someone change my mind, because I just don't see how everyone is loving it.

No one will change your mind. Movie shouldn't be nominated.

it has it's innacurate moments as well

all of these political movies get hype because the media loves them. Journalists love them.

always be wary.

Shouldn't be nominated?

let's not get carried away. The Academy nominated Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close last year... that shouldn't have been nominated.

No suspense during the scene where they walk through the marketplace? When they're going through the checkpoints? When they stormed the embassy? The final scene with the plane was too much... at some point they didn't need to try to build any more suspense and should have just let it go.

This goes back to what I said in the Academy Awards thread... sometimes a movie is just very good all around, and that's Argo. The Hollywood plot was fun and interesting. Arkin and Goodman were perfect in their roles. Cranston and the CIA were also solid. The performances from the embassy workers were all great. The dialogue was sharp and engaging. The direction did it's job. And I just don't see many weaknesses from the movie.

I don't think it screamed "Best Picture" when I saw it. If anything, it was just a solid B+/A- quality movie. A very good, well made movie... and sometimes that's enough. I don't think people predicting it to win Best Picture is exaggerated praise by any means. And if this was mediocre, then I'd love to see what you think is a bad or great movie. If all average movies were Argo, then we'd be in GREAT shape.

Argo is a very good movie. It's incredibly well balanced. I really liked it when it came out, but the praise is kind of ridiculous. It's what a film like this should be. It's what adult dramas are supposed to be, but stopped being. But that doesn't suddenly make it amazing and the de facto best film this year. It just shows how ****** or non-existent straight dramas for adults have become.

People are awarding it for not having anything notably bad about it, being super feelgood and making Hollywood people feel like they're heroes.

It should definitely be nominated, but the fact that it's won so many awards, and will probably win tonight, is disappointing to me.

I know I shouldnt get too heavily invested in it because the ratings project a cancellation, but I am thoroughly enjoying this season of Touch. It's getting pretty good.

Watch flight last night and again this morning at my mom's crib with her. I may be caught up in the moment, but I think that should win tonight, Great movie, the screenplay/writing was A+. My mom whose a former addict herself loved it also.

Flight was good but I just didnt think it was that great of a movie. Denzel acting was great however if that makes any sense. Great acting from Denzel but overall movie was just ok,

If they would've moved the airplane scene to the end of the 2nd act, and if the ending of the film wasn't such a copout, I think Denzel would've been a contender for an Oscar tonight. I loved his performance. I loved the angles they took on it. But his very best acting happened in the opening scene. And so many of the scenes just kinda broke down into regular network TV drama.

And the story's ending is such a letdown with how quickly they rush to a sort of happy ending. It just felt unnecessary to me, like they didn't know what they were trying to say besides, you can have fun drinking, just not on the job and not around the kid, okay?

It's a shame, because the plane scene is amazing.

Was Celeste and Jesse Forever any good? Been meaning to find that.

His cameo in Nick and Norah is low-key one of my favorites ever. :lol
