Olympic athlete banned from participating because of racist joke on Twitter

i agree. some olympians are trashmen and women or janitors and they manage to find the time to train. i think those with money forget the fact that they're blessed to be there.... thats why im happy dwayne wade is at home baking "bom" cakes instead of with the team in London.

clown. there are people that would kill to be Olympians. and this dude is complaining that they're not getting paid enough and bakin cakes out here and this chick is slandering the motherland :{

You sound uninformed and foolish.  Wade is recovering from knee surgery but he should give up his PT just to be in London w/ everyone else?  What the hell kind of sense are you making?

Define professional. Because to to me it sounds like you're throwing out one of those cliche terms w/ no real basis behind it.

What is a professional way to celebrate?

I'd love to hear homie's definition of that as well.

I know that Wade is recovering from knee surgery, and i think he is an amazing athlete. however, I feel as though people who fail to realize its a privilege to be an Olympian should just stay at home and bake cakes.

It’s a lot of things you do for the Olympics — a lot of jerseys you sell. We play the whole summer. I do think guys should be compensated. Just like I think college players should be compensated as well. Unfortunately, it’s not there. But I think it should be something, you know, there for it.”

I was speaking to Wade's comments about financial compensation and in no way implying that he should jeopardize his personal health to participate.

Stupid imo.

And then because shes shook about the repercussions she feels obligated to post

"I would like to express my heartfelt apologies for the unfortunate and tasteless joke I published on my personal Twitter account. I am very sorry and ashamed for the negative responses I triggered, since I never wanted to offend anyone, or to encroach human rights."

Shouldnt have to put her tail between her legs and take back everything she said like a coward. Go ahead and speak your mind, I don't care. Words are nothing more than that.

I wouldnt have banned her.

[insert Nelson's "Ha Ha!"]

She'll have to wait another 4 years, probably passing her prime.

Until then, she'll probably atone for her comments and recieves a BBC.

thats a clown question and i'm not interested in taking the bait.
While there may not be a such thing as professional celebration that your asking for, there is a such thing as excessive celebration and that's my only point to tie this back into the original topic. To celebrate excessively, to mock another culture, to act an *** is unprofessional and immature and not worthy of Olympic opportunity. which is why I believe its fine that she's not able to participate.

And how has the USA basketball team celebrated more extremely than any other team?

Spain was trying to start fights in the last exhibition game and team USA remained calm and professional...no one said a thing.

You're reaching and looking thirsty to criticize NBA players in the process.

That's cool man and your entitled to your opinion, but before you try to check me look at yourself, i criticized a greek athelete, the entire spanish team, and the USA team and all you caught was me criticizing US NBA players. Sit back down at your tv tray & laptop and calm down.

I'm speaking to the excessive celebration earlier in the friendlies that drew boo's from the crowd. i posted about it before NT switched over but nevertheless I think since that particular game NBA vets like Kobe, Lebron, and CP3 as well as the coaching staff have actually gotten a handle on that, I agree they conducted themselves much better in the win over Spain. I just hope they can keep that going with the actual games beginning here pretty soon.

I don't think team USA has done anything on the level of those other athletes to be lumped in with them.

And I didn't see them celebrating any more extremely than other teams in their competition. They've been getting booed for everything they do, simply because they're on foreign soil.

They're playing Euro team in Europe. They'll get booed regardless. Thats not a measure of their professionalism.

as a black man I think this is taking the whole PC-thing too far. Let her compete, this is censorship on another level.
Politically Correct? In Europe of all places? That just doesn't exist like it does here. The racism and xenophobia is very visible from politics to media. This isn't censorship or sensitivity as MenteCriminal believes. Greece's reputation throughout Europe is in the crapper for their financial crisis which is devaluing the Euro by the day. Her comments toward a rising immigrant group because of the country's said financial difficulties is one less thing Greece needs hanging over its head especially when she'll be living with and competing against the people she insulted.

The only way I can define this is to represent your country, to be a humble champion, to not be arrogant to the point where your insulting or belittling a team or ethnic group. The USA basketball team has not acted in a negative light at all. Brandon, you basically want the USA to perform as robots. Your saying they should just clap and high five nothing else. That is ridiculous.. Act like they been there before you say. This is something they experience every 4 years. Not everyone is going to be here the next go around. You get up and cheer your compadres especially those who play little minutes. That is unity in itself, but no your focusing on the "WAY" they celebrate.

How can you even group racist sentiments with "your" definition of acting unprofessional. How about you go watch other teams like when Spain dominates and see your definition of unprofessionalism fly out the window. Or even when the bench berates the referee when a call doesn't go their way by running up and down the sidelines. It's an emotional game. Stop it.. Your trying to tell me if a team were beating USA by a large margin they are not going to act well "Unprofessional."

And let the man Wade cook.. He has represented USA since 2004.. He has a knee injury. If he gets hurt in the olympics w/o taking care of his personal problem, he may have an even more limited career. We should be able to see where these players are coming from when it concerns their playing career.

Man, I'm black and yeah, it was dumb of her to say. But honestly who cares. She's just another dumb broad who doesn't think before she speaks. I wouldn't had banned her...

P.S. If she was a ugly broad, my response may have been different lol.
