Pippen Says LeBron is "Best Player Ever"

Ever think that players in Wilt's era didn't have the advantages in weight training/medicine, scouting, travel, rule changes, etc. that players do today? You truly think that these players wouldn't take advantages of these things? How can you compare players across eras (and say they "suck") without keeping these things in mind? Ever wonder how today's players would play back in the day WITHOUT these benefits?

You can actually put Wilt's numbers into the context of his era (and the defenses he played against) and THEN compare him to other players. He comes out top THREE.

not taking away from Wilt's game, but the defense in that vid was suspect

Some of those points came against a certain player that we consider the best defender ever..named Bill Russell.

OMG HIVEMIND I SWEAR TO GOD. i was just bout to post that.
that !++@! bill russell was DOO DOO at defense. wow. he had his arms spread like he was bout to fly.

he would take a step back and everyone would stop moving and look at him. even his defender.

no one was double teaming him. no one was cutting off his lane.

no one was rotating. no contested shots. no hands in his face.

im watchin espn... serge ibaka's sorry #$! would had wilt on lizzzzzzock. hand all in his face. body checks.

did wilt ever get a flagrant foul?

D.Howard would have scored a million points a game with that stuff.

Um kinda cause lets be real the difference in athletism etc still would be different no racism, but even todays times a 6'7 175,180 white in todays nba vs a 7'1 250 black guy in todays game.... It still would be a desparingly difference in athleticism, quickness, etc... And would still get dominated, it be like if you put the best 6'7-6'9 white players of today vs d12, prime shaq, drob, akeem, mourning, etc on a nightly basis. Eliminate lane violations, zone defense so on and so forth. I think dwight, prime shaq, akeem, ewing, robinson could get 50+ nights very often.

This video is a horrible defense for his case. In every highlight, not one of his post moves or shots were guarded. Not one shot was contested. And every single play the opponents moved out of the lane and let him score alone outside of cousy/russell and all they did was raise their hands in front of him.

We don't know if Ewing, Shaq, Hakeem, etc. would get 50+ nights in this day. But once again, you can put Wilt's numbers into the context of his era and he's a top three player.

Im confident on saying that if those players had a 4-5 inch 50lbs and twice as strong advantage on any given night against their opponent's, coupled with players moving out the way or not even contesting their shot (the video provided is the proof). With no 3 sec violations no double teams, no zone defense, no interior defense, could score 50 easily. The Admiral scored what like 73, despite guys actually standing in front of him and guarding him, and contesting his shot, and having to deal with interior defense, zones, and the 3 second rule. Not to mention he didnt play the entire game. I dont think its too farfected to say he not having to deal with the later of the two could score 17 more points.

I watched one of wilts 50+ games, he wasnt even guarded. Players moved literally parted like moses red sea any time he touched the ball. Are you seriously gonna tell me, btw that game he got 42 touches. that a kobe a wade a lebron a mj got close to 50 uncontested unguarded shots and open lanes couldnt get 50 pts. Like be foreal you cannot be serious.

you can never really put players from different eras against each other. What If Kobe had been born 10 years earlier and had to play against prime MJ? No rings for Kobe. What if MJ played back when the rules where so that the centers dominate the league? No rings for MJ unless he's on a team with a dominant center, which he never was in his career. What if Karl Malone was born 10 years later and didn't have to compete against MJ for rings? What if LeBron played in the era when perimeter players were allowed to hand check and push guys around? What if DWade had to play in the 60's where if you got injured, you were just screwed?

You can never really compare players 1 on 1 from drastically different eras. You can only compare them to how they dominated the competition of their day.

Very true but using common sense, no knock to you and deduction, If jordan got 42 unguarded/uncontested shots, no double teams, no travel, double dribble calls, no zone defense, no lane violations calls, and players a 3rd his size and half as strong couldnt get 50 points.... You cannot honestly say that.

Yeah, but Jordan was a product of his era. Can you honestly say none of the 60's SGs were as good as MJ? If they were, how would you ever know? What if MJ played in the 60's? Would he really ever be able to drive considering guys like Wilt and Bill Russell could camp in the post with no 3 second rule? What would MJ do in the post against a 7'1 shot blocking machine with insane reach an even better vertical than his own? MJ would have to be pretty much a jump shooter. You can question "if Jordan got 42 unguarded/uncontested shots". He wouldn't.
You have to also consider there there was absolutely no benefit of being a range shooter being that there was no 3 point line. The game was absolutely dominated by the center position offensively and defensively. The smartest play MJ could make would be to get the ball into a big man.

MJ would be an even more effective scorer in todays game, but the more you move back in time, the less effective he would be.........   as a scorer. He would effect the game in other ways, but not as a primary scorer.

The NBA has steadily evolved from a game dominated from the center position to a game where the center position is less and less effective and favors the perimeter players. If you put Dwight in the 80's he be a much more effective player simply because the rules of game favored the center position more than it does now. It's the same for perimeter players. Right now the game favors them, but the further you go back, the more disadvantaged they are.

lebron plays more like pippen. but that doesn't mean he won't be better than jordan.

to be the GOAT, you don't have to avg 30 ppg for the career.

if he excels in more areas than mj, bron has a chance to be better than him.

lebron being more like scottie is actually a good thing.

cuz pippen is more all around than mj.

players don't want to be like mj.

playing like mj is not good for the team, unless you're jordan
