I know its a likely outcome,
but I can't help but hope something is done.
Far too many witnesses all corroborating one another's accounts for nothing to happen.

Maybe if Mike Brown was a young Caucasian honor student.
Reality is, we're used to getting no justice. This grand jury setup is a sign that it's not going to see a fair shot at justice. Maybe when the word comes down that the pig is skating any charges, the people will finally do what needs to be done.

the results of our efforts must lead to something tangible .

I have to disagree with that assessment. I understand the cynicism but the relativism is not constructive and it lets the wrong people wield too much power.
A two party political system is frustrating for many. Two parties stake out positions near the center and adopt a few minor variations. Fortunately for progressives, Republicans are drifting so far to the right and they are alienating so many voting blocs that the Democratic Party is poised to take and hold the reins of government for many years.
What is key for black people, is that you guys vote in both the General elections and Primaries. I know it is a lot to ask because American History has seen to it that black people have less money and leisure time and local resources that are helpful in delivering a big turnout on election day. However, if you can organize and vote in greater numbers in General elections, you can solidify a more or less permanent Democratic Majority nationally.
That is, of course, only half of the battle. You guys, along with other genuine progressive elements have to own the primaries. As it stands, there is a small but very active, white, pro law enforcement wing of the Democratic party. They dominate the primaries from Boston to Missouri and that is why the Democratic Party has not been very serious about curbing the various problems related to excessive law enforcement power.
Black people should avoid the Republican Party and most do. The GOP is extremely conservative and shrinking. The Democratic Party is growing and only parts of it are conservative. If black people turn out in higher numbers in all elections, Democrats will have more power and they will be forced to govern in a manner that is more amenable to black people and other marginalized groups.

Anyone noticed how a lot of older black people love Obama endlessly and don't seem to be up on what's happening right now? My parents pretty much only watch CNN and then repeat what they heard on it. It seems like it's mostly on young people to galvanize change.

I think old people in general are hard to away from their political way of thinking. They're hell bent in believing that the person or party they align themselves with are looking out for their best interests.
