there's a lot of confusion in this thread. it is possible to jailbreak 3.1.3.
it is also possible to unlock certain 3G with the old bootrom even if you accidentally updated.

if you wanna unlock your iPhone 3G on 3.1.3 and it has the old bootrom then just jailbreak it and using WiFi download "fuzzyband" in cydia, it will down grade your baseband and your phone will be ready for ultrasn0w.

But with the newer bootroms and updates i believe you can jailbreak but cannot turn the iphone/ipod off, if so you will have to jailbreak the phone again.

does anyone know of a program to completely delete things permanently off an ipod. im selling my ipod and i want to make sure they cant access anything.

i just installed snow cover. it works but every time i slide to unlock it crashes springboard and launches springboard in safe mode. any ideas on how to fix? i tried reinstalling already.
