POST YOUR WATCHES vol. ?

rfx you comic book *****...I'm looking to get the brown strap tissot prc200....would you suggest going into a watch store for a better price than $300 online?

It has quartz movement, if that is the best price you could find, I'd definitely buy online as long as the store is reputable like Jomashop or Authenticwatches. Most of those places also has a coupon code and you might be able to save $10-$20 to cover shipping.

400

Grey market means the store isn't an authorized dealer so the warranty will not be covered by the watch manufacturer, instead the warranty is from the store itself so something happens to the watch they will try and fix it themselves. To me, for the cheaper purchases with a simple movement like Tags or Hamilton or Tissot, buying from Jomashop or Authenticwatches is good enough as any problems with the movement should be easy enough to fix. With something more complicated or in-house movement, where I would not trust any regular watchmakes to fix or even clean the watch, I'd go with an authorized dealer. With the internet these days, it is easy enough to get the same (if not better) discount from an authorized dealer and even save a few bucks on tax with a little bit of work.
That is simply my opinion though and how I feel about grey markets. They have their place for bigger discount and sometimes they have old stock of watches that has been discontinued but they also aren't perfect for every purchase. Just make sure the grey market store is legit if you do buy from them.

Thanks for the info.

Rfx can probably give a pretty good comparison as far as movement etc. the sub has been around for decades and is as fashionable and dependable now as it was when it first came out.

Ugh, typed up a lot of stuff and then accidentally closed the window so I will re-type in less details cuz I feel lazy now.

Between the PO & Sub, Rolex has the edge on the brand recognition for sure. Omega is on par with Rolex but the general public will always see it as a competitor with Tag Heuer and that it is a few notches below. Watch enthusiast of course knows better.

As for movement, Omega 8500 is rather new but an improvement on it's predescessor so it has the edge of being newer while the Sub still uses Cal3135 iirc (though it was announced that the movement has been improved this year), it is proven and a robust movement. Both are COSC certified but Omega certifies their own movements unlike Rolex who still sends it out to be certified so take that as you will.

The bracelet has been updated on the Sub as well and general consensus from enthusiasts is that it is for the better.

Both should keep a pretty accurate time being COSC certified.

Omega can be had for bigger discount as Rolex really monitors and heavily restricts the discounts on their watches, this along with the name has kept resale value pretty high though while Omegas has a lower resale value. Rolex is one of the few watches that can actually sell more for what you paid for it because price increases annually and sometimes the depreciation isn't as big as the price increase. This is on rare occasions but with Rolex releasing newer and updated models, the older ones are becoming much more rare and sought after by collectors and are willing to pay more in the end. Like the new Subs and their ceramic bezels, the stainless steel bezels becomes more rare and desirable and the older it becomes the higher the value. This isn’t the case with Omega, even the older more sought after Speedmasters aren’t selling really high unless it is one of the limited versions. Rolex warranty is nontransferable either while Omega and most other watchmakers warranty are. Again just something that keep Rolex's value high.

Of the two, the Rolex definitely looks more classic while the PO looks more modern. Both won’t go out of style anytime soon, if ever.

At the end of the day, it really just boils down to what you like and what you prefer. Both are great watches so just weigh in what you like in each watch and then decide.

yeah steezy she looks mint.. always liked when watches showed the movement, wonder how it would look with a different bracelet, still looks tough now

gotta grab my tag left it at my old man's place ill hopefully post a pic soon

This is not my pic but a couple years ago I received this watch from my friend in India. He gave to to me when I graduated with my B.A. I just found it after some diligent searching and man I love this watch. I like Timex in general, it's a great watch to give someone as a present and it's affordable.

Grim the tissot classic dream looks very close to that and is under $200 I think

Just peeped it and your right. Thing is I prefer the Timex I posted because it was free of course, the sentimental value and I actually like the look better of the timex compared to dream classic. The numerals are bolder and the watch band on the timex is a gunmetal color.

^rfx I'm by no means a watch expert but I agree with your evaluation of the "hierarchy" of the brands and value and all of that. A lot in here are car guys, too. Is the BMW/MB/Audi worth $xx,xxxx more than the Lexus/Infiniti/Acura? Well, that all comes down to what you value most about your purchase, among other things.

I'm always attracted to the technical aspects of things (engineering background), and sometimes I like to show my enthusiasm for things by standing out. The Sub, to me, is a "go to" rig for the up-and-comers, the young successful professionals who are attracted to the brand and just happen to pick a great watch at the same time. By no means am I saying its a bad thing to pursue status symbols, I understand it, but going with something off the beaten path so to speak (the PO, to me) adds value to the watch. Like you said, the layman's eyes light up to the Sub; the hobbyist (probably) digs both but recognizes the PO. If I didn't have other plans for my $, I'd buy both.

To the guy considering the Aquaracer: READ UP on them!! I was close to getting the WAN and found out about craftsmanship issues with certain models that TH wasn't covering under warranty. My cousin beat me to the punch on buying one, and his crown pin was toast in less than a year (!). This was a red flag to me, but I suggest at least some research to figure out if this may be a problem for you
