He has done the damage and done it on a day deliberately chosen to get the least media coverage to contain the backlash against it.

LOL. The media wasn't going to mention it anyways. The only place you get real news on television nowadays is on Current TV.

Replaced by who though? Santorum? No. Bachman? No. Romney? No. Ron Paul? The love for Ron Paul really confuses me, I do agree with his drug and foreign policy, but thats about it.
But before I start blindly praising Obama, as I'm somewhat new to following politics, what is this bill for exactly?

I definitely don't agree with everything he does but still think he's the best for the job among those that are running.

When you are going against 87-13 in vote for Defense Authorization Bill, any veto will be overturned by 2/3 majority fairly easily, and you get completely beat..

His best choice is to go through the Justice Department an execute the law as far away from the passed bill proposed as possible, and wait for someone to bring a Supreme Court Case to strike down the law... That really is his only choice...

Should he have veto'd it? If he could switch 22 votes from Yes to No in the Senate then yes.. But anyone will tell you, you will not be able to flip that many people in a landslide vote...

House he would have to switch about a handful of votes..  Possibly he could have switched the vote.. But Democrats went right down the middle.. "Blue Dog Dems" were the Yes votes, and trying to move them is just as hard as moving the tea party

Remember any veto can be overridden and the law as it stands without any changes becomes law...

^^Irrespective of the futility of his veto, it still mattered. It sends the right kind of message to the American people.
It's the difference between an athlete who competes 'till the very end, though the game has long been lost, versus an athlete who quits competing when the final outcome is apparent (Obama and this bill).

That ishh is wack and pathetic. What good is an elected official if (s)he doesn't stand up for his/her constituents?

"I'm gonna sign all these bills into law, even though I don't agree with them"...like really?...

I'm not saying you are wrong at all...  Just wanted to give the perspective...

But I give the blame more to the @*!% faces in the Congress than Obama... He didn't craft the bill, and did put up some fight to it initially.. Him signing it is the equivalent of admitting defeat on this round that he wouldn't be able to mitigate...

Obama as the executive can still completely undermine the bill's execution, and push for it's ineffectiveness, and work behind the scenes to get it pulled...

Nixon proposed creating the EPA, and when it became an Agency severely hampered it's ability of regulation and effectiveness..

niketalk's awareness of two huge issues when it comes to SOPA and the NDAA is really telling of how the rest of the country feels about these bills. people just don't really know it's going on. the mainstream media isn't touching it and people aren't realizing the impact it will have. they won't know until its too late, aka when they're being detained without reason on suspicion of terrorism, or when they cant access porn cause its blocked.
obama lost my vote with his signing of the bill. all 3 branches of government are an absolute joke. particularly congress. its a damn shame.
