Playstation Blog Info & More Voice Actors

Call of Duty: Black Ops news on the Playstation blog and Ice Cube voice acting.
ice-cube_-b-real.jpg

Josh Olin talks about some of the game's less-known features on the Playstation blog. Also, Ice Cube and Sam Worthington are confirmed as voice actors.

Although the full multiplayer reveal was at the beginning of September, there's still plenty of features that haven't been talked about much despite being declassified at the event.

Luckily Treyarch's Community Manager has wrote on the Playstation blog » informing us of some of these features. Although it was written on the Playstation blog, they have since clarified it on the CoDHQ » in which he states that each feature applies to PS3, Xbox 360, and PC (PC version doesn't have online split-screen).

The first feature is multiplayer online split-screen support. This is one of the most notable features that was spotted in videos from the event but hasn't been talked about much. Here's some facts about online-splitscreen:

You can connect a 2nd controller and bring a Guest online (i.e. "JD_2020" & "JD_2020(1)").
Guests can rank up, earn unlocks, etc -- all Guest progress goes away once signed out.
(Xbox 360 only) You can bring a 2nd, Gold Xbox LIVE account online!
(Xbox 360 only) Both players with full online accounts can rank-up while playing split-screen, as if on two separate consoles.

The next feature that he talked about is the customs games editor. Although a "Custom Games" menu has been spotted in videos, Treyarch haven't talked about it at all. This feature brings a host of new options to private matches, such as weapons, Perks, gear, as well as the usual Time and Score Limits. So if you want to make a Pistols Only match, then you can. This will be a great feature for clan matches, modes such as Mike Myers, and just general fun. Each Custom Game you make can also be saved in your File Share so that friends and the community can download them. People have been asking for more in-depth private matches for a long time, Treyarch have brought!

One of the key factors that Treyarch has been talking about for a while is Socialization. They want players to be able to play with friends when and how they want. Have you ever wanted a Friends List built into the game? Well Black Ops has that! You will be able to browse Recent Players, Friends, navigate their File Shares, Recent Games and Combat Records by using the in-game menu system. Inviting friends to games and checking their game history has never been easier.

We've all joined that one (or more...) game where we've been on the end of a poor connection, and when we're matched in a international lobby, it only gets worse. But how about regional matchmaking and party privacy? Yep, you guessed correctly, Black Ops also has that! This means that you can now choose to join games that are hosted in your regional area and the host will also have the option to set their party to Invite Only, Friends Only, or Close, meaning that any unwanted players won't be joining.

And to finish us off, Emblems do NOT reset when prestiging. Emblems are the only thing that you will keep when you prestige while things such as XP, COD Points, Challenge progressions and loadouts will be reset.

Thanks to alex_dlc » for the heads up.
More Voice Actors Announced

Ice Cube confirmed on his twitter page » that he will be playing Corporal Bowman and lead multiplayer designer David 'Vahn' Vonderhaar then announced » that Ice will also be playing the SOG announcer in multiplayer.

Another voice actor that has been announced via the Black Ops Facebook page » is Sam Worthington and it's believed that he will be playing Alex Mason. Cube has featured in Friday, Anaconda, and Are We There Yet?, while Worthington has starred in Terminator Salvation, Avatar, and Clash of the Titans.
New Voice Actor Announced
emmanuelle-chriqui-voice-actor.jpg

As Geektown » reports, Black Ops' strong cast has just got even strong, and sexier... Gary Oldman's return as Reznov and Ed Harris' introduction to the cast was announced a few months ago (details here ») and a Entourage star has now joined them.

Canadian actress Emmanuelle Chiriqui was confirmed as a voice actor in a MSN Canada phone interview with Treyarch game director Dave Anthony. Although not much is known about her role, Dave did mention that her "character is someone who is mysterious, elegant, sexy and with a hint of playful". He went on to say that the game's "story is full of mystery and intrigue" and that it's "probably the most ambitious narrative" they've ever attempted.

Emmanuelle's character will weave in and out of the game's narrative and she will be known for a set of numbers rather than a name. Dave mentioned that working with her was a joy and that she nailed the job of voicing the character as "she can deliver the sexy side but also more subtle performances as well".

She has been in many movies and TV shows such as You Don't Mess with the Zohan and The O.C., but her most notable appearance is in Entourage in which she plays Sloan McQuewick.
Zombie Maps in Collector’s Editions
collector-editions-zombie-maps.jpg

As you should most likely know by now, if you pre-order the Prestige Edition and Hardened Edition then you will receive the 4 Zombie maps from World at War as well as the new Zombie maps that will be on the disk in every edition. But what changes have been made to our beloved Nacht der Üntoten, Verrückt, Shi No Numa, and Der Riese maps? A new blog post on the CoDHQ » answers this question.

Because of the improved engine, the maps have been upgraded with "amazing graphical and audio improvements". But that's not all. You will be able to dive to prone to escape the deadly swipes from the Zombies, and the famous voices from the characters that appeared in and after Shi No Numa will be included in the first two maps, Nacht der Üntoten and Verrückt.

The Mystery Box does return but instead of containing World at War weapons, it will include the deadliest weapons from Black Ops. So that means that you can begin slaying Zombies with AK-74u's, M-15's, RPK's, Spas Shotties, and many more. But if these weapons aren't strong enough for you, then upgrade them in Der Riese's Pack A Punch machine in order to create "some of the most devastating weapons the Call of Duty franchise has ever produced".

This is a perfect opportunity for those who haven't yet experienced these 4 maps or those who just want to re-live the magical moment once more. So in order to get the full co-op experience with old and new maps, make sure you pre-order the Hardened or Prestige Edition today. Many retailers have already ran out of stock of the Collector Editions, so you may want to hurry before more follow.
