#Electronic Arts #PS3 #Skate #Xbox 360
Skate 3 is out today, so the chances of you finding a used copy at your local shop are slim. But if you're holding out to save a few bucks on a second-hand copy, you might want to reconsider.
One of the key features of Skate 3 is the ability to create and share custom content, including massive skate parks, with other users. But in order to access these features, you'll need to redeem a one-time-use code that comes with each new copy of Skate 3.
Electronic Arts is calling it the "Skate Share Pack," and if you don't have a code, you can purchase one via Xbox LIVE or PlayStation Network. The pack isn't currently available for purchase, and EA hasn't confirmed pricing. But if it's more than $5 (generally the price difference between a new and used title at a retailer like GameStop), it would basically kill any "value" in purchasing the title pre-owned.
Yesterday, EA Sports announced a similar approach for all of its titles, requiring gamers to redeem a code in order to access all of a game's online features.
"In order to continue to enhance the online experiences that are attracting nearly five million connected game sessions a day, again, we think it's fair to get paid for the services we provide and to reserve these online services for people who pay EA to access them," EA Sports Senior Vice President of World Wide Development, Andrew Wilson, said in an online Q&A.
Perhaps it wont just impact second-hand sales, but piracy as well -- users are already looking to purchase unused "Skate Share Pack," presumably for use with illegally obtained copies of the title.
I'll have my full review up of Skate 3 later today, so stay tuned. (Spoiler: It's excellent.)
PixelJunk Shooter 2 revealed in July PlayStation: The Official Magazine
by Andrew Yoon { May 14th 2010 at 2:00PM }
While Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood may hold the cover spot of the next issue of PlayStation: The Official Magazine, the July 2010 issue will also feature a "lovefest feature" on PixelJunk Shooter 2, Q-Games' not-yet-announced-but-very-real PSN sequel, according to a Tweet from EIC Gary Steinman.
Considering the numerous hints of a sequel, we're unsurprised that the game's existence is confirmed by an uneventful preview of a preview. (It seems Sony is intent on making this a trend.) If Sony shows this off at its E3 press conference, just try to act shocked, okay?
Bought PJS on sale a couple weeks ago, dope game..Looking forward to the sequel.
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time Head to PlayStation 3 Platinum Range
Friday, 14 May 2010 14:43 Kev J. PLAYSTATION3 - PLAYSTATION3 News
Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) has revealed the latest new additions to the PlayStation 3’s official collection of budget titles, the Platinum range. The critically acclaimed Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and the widely respected Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time are both set for re-release under the Platinum banner next month.
Having debuted in October last year, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves joins it’s predecessor, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune in the PlayStation 3’s official range of budget titles. Featuring both a groundbreaking single-player adventure and an enduringmultiplayer mode, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is often referred to as one of the best examples of pioneering game design on the PlayStation 3 console. Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time followed a month later, in November 2009, and though not met with the same level of acclaim as Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, the game still received almost unanimous recommendation from the specialist videogames press.
Both titles will be repackaged and launched as part of the PlayStation 3’s Platinum range from 11[sup]th[/sup] June 2010, available with a Recommended Retail Price (RRP) of £19.99 each. Electronic Theatre will keep you updated with all the latest additions to the Platinum ranges on both PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable.
