Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

i swear i dead *** saw a golf player or some **** doing that **** on the today show

he was referencing real crimes in a virtual freestyle that went mainstream

surreal lol

still feel like he only blew that summer bc speaker knockerz died tho

I doubt Joe wanted to work on a Friday, he barely wants to work four days a week. Plus he's having a kid now.

Ya'll are exaggerating, they let Quan and SZA talk. He just doesn't let Ak talk

I don't understand what Ak was saying. He's always speaking for his followers. How can you not understand Tupac's lyrics? They're plain as day. All of the issues in the 90's still plague us today. You have to be stupid not to understand Tupac lyrics. That's like not understanding Marvin Gaye or Stevie Wonder songs.

It's about time A$ap Mob gets on their grind. They're about five, six, seven years too late. IMO their star has dimmed some. They should have been releasing albums Wu style years ago.

Ak just has to defend the HS kid - 22 crowd. That's his fan base.

Dude really asked "how are they gonna know about Pac or Biggie?" Youtube dummy. Music is easy to get nowadays.

Simply put some of kids these days don't wanna hear anything in music that makes them think at all, if it isn't some ignorant **** they don't wanna listen. and in the case of a Big, Nas, Jay etc etc there's lines your not gonna catch because they weren't around in that era.

Kodak black really ruined that a boogie song. Dude has good songs here and there and then he sounds like a child left behind on others.

I don't expect the youth of one generation to fully connect to the music of a previous one. They didn't live thru it...of course they aren't going to understand it in the same way the youth of that previous gen did. To "understand" doesn't necessarily mean the ability to read and process lyrics.

I'm actually starting to wonder why we're even having this conversation. At my elderly age of 31, I'm starting to find it counterproductive to be going back and forth with kids about THEIR ****. I was not arguing with my uncles about KRS One vs Dipset.

They're on a different frequency. It is what it is.

I guarantee you that in 10 years kids will be doing the SAME thing with this current gen.

All youth are naturally defiant. In this current digital age, we just see it communicated with a little more vitriol...and this current gen are master trolls. So when some little pop tart with Lakers colored dreads says "Nas is trash...I can't understand this old *****"....people get all up in arms and ****".

Getting called "old" actually gets under a lot of ****** skin...which is why it's their #1 go-to insult. Think about that for a second. People consider it in an insult, to be wise and further along on your life path. That's bizarre. But if this bothers you...there might be something wrong with how YOU interpret the concept of age within a cultural context.

Bottom line...I think what I'm saying is I'm kinda over this so called "generational gap". Let them Lil ****** do what they do. Experience is the best teacher.

I wish I could rep you for every paragraph.

It's funny to me how each generation when they are young complain about the older generations not understanding what they are into then growing up and behaving the same exact way when they get older.

Always reminds me of the scene in Paid in Full when Ace is in the cleaners chillin' with the radio playin' and Pip come in and complain about the music, say how he can't even understand what they're even sayin' and change it to his music and says "Now this is music!"

This man understands. Slow clap

Nah I'm of this generation and this mumbling moaning stuff was cool for a few years but now it's starting to get played out. Just like everything once EVERYONE hops on something it gets old quick.

Shiny Suit Era 2.0

Meek, Chance, Migos, Gucci, Kevin Gates, Kodak and even something like this

Show that you can be relatively lyrical (i.e. not using the same <75 buzzwords) and still have trap esque beats and cadences.

Everything has it's place but up until the mid 2010's there were at least different types of beats and flows. Now everything has rolling hi hats and 808s. Bring back regional sounds and different types of beats.

The Post Malone, Lil Peep, Trippie Redd, Swaghollywood stuff is cool but now it's time to call it something else so rap can have it's own evolution. It can still be urban music, just not rap.

Even in the club/party perspective, there's nothing like a hard rap record like No Flocking, Faneto, D&N Intro, First Day Out Gucci, even for the chicks Bodak Yellow has that energy.

Look like they actually planning on having a "guest host" every Friday

I guess we just gotta wait and see if it's gonna be in place of Joe every week

The page Elliott reposted it from seems to have taken it down, though

Now that I re-watch this, they're extra as hell for leaving in that bit where Akademics was talking about Joe apparently missing the memo

Yeah, him making fun of Wale was funny as ****. ****ted on that lesbian.

Nebraska with the hat though. That mouth. She's the definition of Hatfish for broads.

Akademiks been waiting to get those Wale bars off for months. he's right tho, wale swore he was going over heads.

Joe funny, in the past he'll get on mal and Rory for not listening to music, so they can discuss it on a podcast they damn near do for free. he's getting a check to discuss music and he's not up to date, on artist he swear he's a fan of. prolly saving the east discussion for the pod, but still funny.

That's a good point. He's gotten on them a few times about it. I also don't think he's a fan of Ferg or East. He's also sai for a while that he usually doesn't listen to albums right when they drop
