Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

Joe's take on the 50 vs Kanye battle is really interesting.

So he was basically saying that the industry set 50 up to fail? I don't know about that. 50 just started to fall off musically. We could hear it on The Massacre, Cutis was worse and after he fell off completely.

50 dropped that Laughing to the bank song in like april that year it was a brick, The Amusement Park around the same time that did ok but those just wasn't that good. Kanye dropped Can't Tell Me Nothing and that song was everywhere.

Yeah 50 just fell off with each album. I get money was the last time he was musically relevant

the massacre was dope
and woulda been better
if he didn't give those records to game
and kept em for the massacre
curtis wasn't great but ok
amusement park
and i get money
only songs i remember i liked but
joe had a point on that whole thing
and I've heard those points brought up somewhere else recently
regarding that 50 vs kanye thing
but cant remember

What he's saying makes sense. I remember him beefing with Iovine and that was a big deal.

Ayo Technology should have been bigger. It was cool.

Amusement Park was a better version of Candy Shop.

I agree with Joe that those didn't pop because there was zero money. 50 was still hot off The Massacre.

grodt was harder than the massacre
but i think the massacre was better than grodt

50 just wasn't making the same quality of music. Curtis sold a lot off of his name and I Get Money. Nobody ever talks about how good that album was. Kanye "won" cuz he was making great music and hip hop was moving in a softer direction. Overnight _'s was dressing like Kanye everywhere. After the can't me nothing videos dudes started wearing smaller jeans and that funny scarf he had on.

Huh bruh?

I disagree but The Massacre should have been cut in half. Too much filler.

50 was coming off Massacre and he was hot. His singles were dope but it makes sense that Jimmy wanted to teach him a lesson. Joe was still in the building around that time. I'm rocking with him on it. 50 was a dangerous bully and was running ****.

Chill, GRODT is a classic.

50 just really started to decline. I think it was a combination of both. It wouldn’t surprise me if the label set this up (and maybe even bought records) to almost put 50 in his place. The decrease in quality kinds pushed it a step further and knocked 50 down a couple notches, IMO. It was inevitable, but this definitely had impact.

Huh bruh?

just cause something is harder
doesn't mean its better
another example
grindin is the hardest song off clipse first album
but not the best song

Exactly lol. Idek why he threw that "soft" in there :lol

Kanye was just making flat out better music. That's it.

The masssacre has joints. "Ski mask way" is one of 50s best.

GRODT is one of the best albums of all time though.

Cuz hip hop was getting softer.

Music wise and look wise.

Yea although i could see interscope trying to humble 50, i vividly remember nothing working for him & then " I Get Money" dropped & the ball started rolling again.

50 is also a average rapper who is a one trick pony. Especially when he went the crossover 21 Questions route.

Add average production, and it was a wrap for his career.

This
1 trick pony yes
but when he does that hard ****
he's good at it
undeniably
which kills me on why he doesn't just stay in that lane
that hard street **** is like second nature to him
but for some reason he doesn't stay in that lane

speaking of amusement park
remember the video
and his lil move when he says
"ill work it out
without a doubt"

i remember folks used to be CLOWNING
i need a gif of that move matter of fact :lol

I think 50 had the believable factor wit the hard and street stuff. Lil Wayne or Ja Rule making a threat, it's not that believable.

50's image fit his subject matter unlike a lot of these guys. Most are only tough with other people or with a gun in their hand. Everyone has seen Meek and Young Thug box. 50 portrayed all of that, plus he had the background.

It was like with Tupac, you believed him. You believed 50 would knock your head off. He was like a rap super hero.

His music stopped projecting that image and he always seemed like he was going through the motions after GRODT musically searching for a hit. There's a big difference in Guess Who's Back to The Massacre also skill wise. I actually like Guess Who's Back better then GRODT. I only like three songs on GRODT, Wanksta, Many Men and What Up Gangsta. 21 Questions and In Da Club are ok for what the are.

The two step he does in the candy shop video was funny too. When he is with the girl in the pink top that has the whip.
