Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

I like a few a Gunna tracks here and there but I can't get into this tape. It's one long *** song with an exhausted sound.

I really wonder what these ****** shelf life is gonna be. This sound is going to have to expand eventually.

They going to be around for a minute. Especially lil baby. Them ***** just know how to make good music. That’s always going to have staying power.

Pretty much all the ATL cats that broke through and reached these type of levels have had staying power. And every year....***** question “how long they’ll be here”.

Remember, they’re setting the pace and introducing new sounds, flows and especially producers etc. Turbo, Quay Global, Wheezy, June etc.

Wayne > TIP.

And both of them have been subpar for a decade....but off longevity alone and the mixtape circuit Wayne > Tip. Tip really had 3 good albums consecutively....went too far Pop....and been trying to recreate the magic he had from 03-07. Him never being a mixtape guy in his genre also kinda draw back a lil.

i was just saying this in the lil baby thread

i wonder how ****** gonna fare when the sound change. they really just b riding the beat name dropping designers. its cool in doses. this time last decade it was travis porter yung LA rich kidz etc.

but these dudes way more established than those ****** ever got. and like wavy said they also bringing up a whole ecosystem of engineers and producers that will keep them hot. gonna be interesting to see how all these “viber” acts fare going into the 2020’s

Gunna is basically turkey bacon version of Thug

Cool and serviceable, might even be A1 on a good day but definitely not a replacement for the real thing

2-3 years from now bruh gonna be working at Zaxbys

Edit: Lil Baby here to stay tho :pimp:

I forgot mozzy was dropping last night or I would have checked that 1st. Will run it later.

Baby n gunna should have been an ep

That ti was better than I expected but nothing crazy. All them features are signs of being washed. But I can see he trying get that old feel back after being pop for so long.

What separates Gunna and Lil Baby

If I had pick one to listen to it would be Gunna

You not really listening. Baby be preachin without being preachy. Take whatever preconceived notions you got on, off....and actually LISTEN to what yo saying. Especially on the 2nd verse of “best of Me”

Or this

If you don’t hear Or feel it....that’s on yo in

The dynamic between Lil Baby & Gunna is similar to Conway & WSG (not comparing quality of bars)

One provides substance, the other provides style

Playing bankroll fresh self titled LP and saw that it came out in 2015. Damn time really moves, I can remember what I was doing when this came out

My favorite project from him. I felt like he truly had next, and not just having next cause he got killed. He was really on his way. Him and DRich could have been in the same vain as Jeezy/Shawty Redd, Gucci/Zay, Future/Metro.

And T.I.’s album is pretty nice. Other than David Banner, there’s not many people than can make content driven/pro-black/positive based rap songs without sounding corny and preachy.
