Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

No, he's right. If you sold that many you crossed over and reached beyond your core audience.

You have songs that go platinum that I have no clue about. You have artist who have multiple platinum singles who can't break 100,000 their first week.

No, he's wrong.

Because by the exact post he quoted, Lucid Dreaming has unequivocally crossed over and reached beyond his core audience. What record in 2018 is going 6x platinum that's not crossing over or hasn't crossed over?

Just because you or him haven't caught it, doesn't mean that it didn't cross over. That record was a smash.

And what you're alluding to is no different. Records went platinum from artist that no one knew about in 90's, and early 2000's as well?

Finally, artists having platinum singles not being able to sell well is 1) Not a new phenomeonon and 2) an archaic way to measure one's relevance or how hot someone is. How music is distributed and sold is so different than it was 10 years ago, let alone "back in my day" ago.

Good grief

Lucid Dreams 6 times platinum yea ****ing right

Wait, y'all for real?

Lucid dreaming is ******* huge  Juice Wrld is trash and I don't own a single record of his but I mean, the record was huge. Inescapable in 2018.

Numbers have been juiced in the music industry for ages but regardless, that record was huge. Got the Kylie Jenner stimulus and everything. And it's not like the record came from nowhere, it dropped over a year ago before it "hit" and crossed over.

I mean STING who obviously has nothing to do with Hip-Hop cosigned the record.

Drake is mesmerized that a human being with real life hardships and experiences is able to convey that through their work

Dude been at it this long and he's talking like this, what's wrong with this *****

Swervo was a pleasant surprise to end the year. Outside of the two promo singles, it was a slow burn.

Yeah dudes hating claiming Lucid Dreams isn’t 6x platinum criteria...

Joint was everywhere last summer.... I’m in South Africa right now and the record still in regular rotation on the radio

Yeah I mean the argument of records being inflated and what not is valid, and to a degree every big record is, but relatively speaking not w/Lucid Dreams. Regardless of genre, I doubt you can name too many songs more popular than that record this year.

Every kid 21 and under knows that **** word for word :lol saw it live this weekend at rolling loud and there wasn't a soul who didn't know "I still see your shadows in my room" blah blah blah.

Song was popular but I'm not buying it. 6x platinum. Let's looking and compare it to any other projects that has sold that much. I don't even think the Carter 3 has sold that much to this date.
