Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

Most in the black community don't know what rape is, though. That's partly why it's hard for the black community to let R. Kelly go. For a ton of people, he didn't do anything inherently wrong.

In the black community, it's completely normal to sexualize young black girls, completely normal for them to be preyed upon by older men, and most of the times we pit the blame on the young black women for being too fast, dressing a sort of way, etc. so they kind of get what they deserve when they have sex with an older man to a lot black people, hence the phrase "She knew what she was doing"

So if she knew what she was doing then it can't be rape. Black people still don't actualize realize that you don't have to have your life threatened for it to be rape.

Agreed. This country as a whole really thinks rape is only being held down kicking and screaming. Rape is also feeding a girl drinks/drugs specifically to get her to perform sexual acts, slipping the condom off, grabbing her body without her consent, and many other ways.

It's going to take LOTS OF WORK to break down the walls of understanding that society has built just for us all to understand what consent actually is.

Although it’s certainly not just the black community, I do agree that it is prevalent amongst our group, by what I see.

I don’t know man

Seems Like Your Ready
Downlow
Your Body’s Calling
I’m a Flirt
Feeling on Your Booty
Sex in the Kitchen
Stroke You Up

These aren’t things I want a pedophile singing about. I don’t want to hear a pedophile sing to begin with but that’s not that point. What 15 year old girl did he just get down with after he wrote these songs? Yeah I’m good. There’s plenty of good music out there. And again, this is about R Kelly. F him.

I get it. He made Bump N' Grind about Aaliyah. 'Untilted Song' off of 12 play has the same medley as 'Street thing' from Aaliyah. Here she is sporting the 12 play pendant for christs sake

This is wild, considering what the entire 12 play album was about and how old Aaliyah was when 12 play was made, and how likely it is that Kellz made 12 play and AANBAN in the same space and...nvm

He has beds in the place where he makes music. It's likely that his genius comes from his sexual deviancy, so R. Kelly is truly a case where it makes sense why anyone wouldn't listen to his music. I don't see out his music anymore and haven't for a minute. But, music seeps into souls and if you can separate the music from the person, that's cool, do you.

I just think that you have to be considerate of those who take R. Kelly's transgressions a bit more serious than you do.

.

This.

Cats act like certain levels of rape are more forgivable than the next. Nah.

Example being Charlemagne :{

It 100% isn't. No one in this country knows what rape and sexual abuse is and men have been seeking out young girls with young girls getting the blame for that since the beginning of time.

I only localized it to black people because...well I'm black and this thread is probably 98% black :lol

It’s just not the black community man. It’s inherently a larger societal thing. You speak on it cuz your black, and it’s your experience, so you understand the nuances of it. But this goes on in literally every community (ie jailbait etc, Brittany Spears type sexualiation).

As far as hip hop and urban culture goes...having a “young bish” has always been a “thing” for players, hustlers etc. Vita in Belly type.

wavycrocket wavycrocket facts. I think in all sector of society with all races and ethnicities, the pristine trophy has always been a young girl (or boy) to the point where it's kind of normalized now, which belies a point in regards to why this is the case, and how deep the fetishism of young girls and youth culture is within our society as a whole, but that's an entirely different conservation

So...if the discussion on why younger (but legal in the eyes of the law) girls are the preference of certain men, would it be digested in a manner that allows for open discourse, or would the person be shouted down for being a weirdo?

The discussion would / should go beyond "preference" of certain men. There's an ageism issue with society that runs deep and the discussion should be about that as a whole, including men's pursuit of young girls.

But to answer your question, there's no chance that a conversation surrounding what you mentioned would be handled in a civil way, and I get that.

Dudes be feeding into what the white media pushes when they keep saying **** like "the black community...". Just another "black on black crime" type of stereotype.

That sounds real ignorant. White dudes have been getting away with this same stuff forever. To this day white dudes get away with raping their women. The stanford swimmer last year was caught in the act and got like 2 months. The world has a issue with how they treat women.

The person would prob be seen as a weirdo because although the woman may be legal she's likely immature and still easily manipulated by an older guy

Like what kinda circles are you in where it's normal to tell the homies you bagged a 15 year old. Can't be speaking for the whole community like that

People typically don't care about issues unless it can affect them directly. A person having a daughter is more likely to care about a rapist being prosecuted than a person without one, generally speaking.
The thing is though this isnt about a rapist being prosecuted.

I dont need a daughter to feel R. Kelly should be in prison or prosecuted. Granted charges would have to be pressed.

I just refuse to agree with someone saying I cant listen to Step in the Name of Love cuz it's about sex slaves.
