Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

My *****.....it wasn’t literally a throw away line in a song that sounds like it’s a typical Club record . It’s not that deep.

Your label has the Migos, Yachty, Rich The Kid, your favorite Lil Baby......... Several different things to push & promote the album. Rather then just pushing one of the many records..... the CEO first thought is hey let me highlight this "throwaway" line about Joe Budden in a video introducing our entire label

Your smarter then this my guy

what "rants" has he went on... they discussed that ****in motorsport record at Nauseam, and the only thing i heard him say about migos at all was that takeoff had the best verse & that the opening verse was trash. He's on a show who's entire purpose is to discuss rap.

Dude been going rants on both shows ever since the BET awards. You can go through this thread, look at past episodes.

Also on this point, if Joe was to get on record and smoke Quavo on a diss track. is everyone gonna go back to the he isn't relevant, he's suppose to win anyway propaganda that popped up when he dissed Drake?

That would be dope to me. Go at 'em.

By nobody you mean teenagers correct? because he jus dropped a year ago & had a #1 album doing 90K first week. so either
A) it was far more than his core base
B) his core base is bigger than what a lot of the "relevant" rappers today amass in total.

Jeezy got a big core of older fans mainly, these are ppl who are cool with buying records cause they remember when that was the only option and have that nostalgia. Same with Ross.

A big chunk of both of their sales are pure cashouts, they didn’t really stream much. But it makes sense as that’s more the method of consumption of the new generation, a generation that don’t really have a connection w them as much.

I think they both did around 70k pure sales last time around. It’s not easy for any new rapper to do that tho, these dudes have 10+ years of history with their fans.

Man joe been ****ting on QC for a long time now

Clearly they want some attention or a lil response from joe. Hence why they promoted that line. It ain’t that deep . 24hr cycle to bring some light to a compilation tape. That’s all it is. And clearly they don’t **** with Joe and took a very light jab.

I heard it. Chuckled, threw a :pimp: on and moved on . But you know with this thread....Everything turns into “This generation” blah blah blah.

Rinse and repeat

I actually think this **** is cool

Migos are the Beatles of rap music and at the height of their careers, they're name dropping the "washed up", "has-been/never-was", "corny, crazy, irrelevant", "had to get a day job" Joe Budden.

In this day and age, these little "beefs" seem to help both sides in getting everyone's attention. That's why Drake low key threw Joe Budden an alley oop. If the biggest rapper in the world puts a light on you, now everyone who's into everything "relevant" has to give you credence now. Joe has parlayed all of his moves outside of rapping into probably being as "relevant" as he's ever been to pop culture. These little viral moments only add to the resume.

All i was asking the entire time man, it was used as a promotional tactic & it worked... and Joe will speak on it lightly tomorrow because he knows it's attention for his brand also.

If that migos song becomes a club hit and the lines becomes a popular phrase that can kinda hurt lol. You walk into the club and you hear ”p***y!” Being directed your way lol all over the airwaves.

Said this weeks ago. Joes profile is bigger now than when he actually had a hit record out. That Drake and Taxstone ****, combined with other savy moves in the internet era have led to joe sticking around

I just think the purposeful cropping of the ig video to highlight that was lame. The actual line itself is whatever. If I would've heard it while listening to the song, I wouldn't care

Explain. What was snake like? The whole subliminal nature of it?

You have a phone call conversation with your boy about personal **** and the next day or so it’s in a song. no heads up no nothing.

Now everyone is hitting you like damn “Cole dissed you??” Every radio station you go to now that’s all they wanna know about. So now you’re up here having to save face and be like “nahhh me and Cole are boys, we cool man” and answering questions all day + you invite your boy to a basketball game just to show y’all still cool  meanwhile he has publicly said nothing in regards to throwing you under the bus publicly.

Had to look at wale a lil funny after that one as well.

So this goes to the debate that pops up in here every few months, what determines someone's relevancy?

Joe got a lil deeper into what he was saying about Jeezy on his podcast. he's not saying that nobody is checking for jeezy or that he isn't capable of quality. he saying that the everyday, short attention span having, casual rap fan isn't hearing or seeing jeezy like they may have 5 years ago. That's true it's not up for debate.

Now with that out the way, if you are still doing 90K first week with no big single & can still do nationwide tours, & have strong ties with legendary hiphop artist and the hottest current rappers. How can you be considered "not relevant" because your crowd purchases instead of streams? because your music is played by mid twentie year old instead of teens?

that's where i always get confused with this equation, Jeezy isn't even attempting to make music or change his image to adapt to the newest generation, so why is he being judged for not connecting with them the same way.

This is a different era of HipHop now, 30,40 year olds still purchase records, they still go to shows, they have grown with the artist. everyone isn't vowing for the same demo

I wonder what he'd be doing right now

The landscape changes so quickly now...that i gotta wonder what space he'd be in right now considering the acceleration he was already on. Imagine him on ES

Is "everyone" no, but it will be mentioned because that's just what a lot of people do. Personally I'd look at Joe sideways a small bit if he goes at Migos for this line because he could have gotten at Chance instead. But Joe likely not gonna get "out of retirement" for this line. Unless Offset drops some bombs Joe easily brushin' this off as nothing and beneath him

I'd be shocked if Joe responded on record. I think he's smart enough at this point to know that's not the move

his boys already told him nah, he can't respond.

But just as fan of rap, I'd love for him to just drop a freestyle and clean up Russ, Chance, Quavo and whomever else had something to say about him this year. :lol

We not getting any bars, but the pod should be hilarious next week.

Joe isn’t responding to that. No reason to. It wasn’t anything dope. Their fans won’t care what Joe says. The older generation will love it. They can’t rap, he can. It’s pointless.

2 Chainz posted the Em tracklist. So is he saying he’s on it too? This is easily gonna be Em’s worst album.

They can’t rap.

I'm an old head at heart but that boy takeoff can spit.
