Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

50 is musically irrelevant

He was a gimmick and he's not a good enough rapper to sustain his career.

50 a gimmick? smells like hate.

nah but everything in 50's revenue, regardless of where it comes from derives from who he is musically... nothing happens anywhere else he people don't like him music wise.

he may not be scorching, but no one was as hot as him for that long...

I thought they’d hit 3 hours easily but Joe not trying to dance.

And Joey told no lies. Uzi is trash. But Wayne is also trash. So Uzi is pretty much a worse version of trash. Catchy tracks here and there, but overall garbage.

I don't want Joe to say nothing until he issues a public apology for that Pick It Up track. Ruined a classic beat

As far as Drake goes, after running So Far Gone back he's not a rapper imo. He's a singer/pop artist who can rap. Just like how T-Pain is not a rapper but is a singer who can rap. When I heard God's Plan I knew folks was gon eat it up but it reeks of lazy/throwaway music. He knows what he can put out to get a buzz and God's Plan is it. Diplomatic Immunity is a better song lyrically, I just hate that flow he used. I'd prefer DI get more attention than GP but eh...

Not sure if 50's a gimmick, but there's a mutual interest between the rapper and the rest of the team. While he wouldn't be who he is without the majors, ultimately he did enough on his own to where Dre/Em came knocking at his door. Columbia or whatever as well.

For the rest of GUnit, can't speak on.

“I used to get teased for being black
And now I'm here and I'm not black enough
Cause I'm not acting tough
Or making stories up 'bout where I'm actually from”

“Black excellence, but I guess when it comes to me it’s not the same though, all goodie
That just pushed me to do the things we all couldn’t“

Even this sounds like some ignorant ****. People question where Drake stands cuz he never speaks on black issues. J Cole don't act tough, people never question where he stands cuz he's been consistent.

Drake said he never experienced racism til he came to America and it was from black people. :lol

Dude gotta understand what racism is.

Brush up on your reading comprehension. That’s not what he said  he said he first time he encountered racism meaning the topic. Not that black folks were racist towards him. Go read that again

This is what your man said

"The first time I really experienced racism was when I got famous and went to America and people would challenge me like I don’t understand how it works or like, ‘Oh, you’re Canadian. You’ll never understand the Black American struggle,'” he said. “That was the first time I had ever gotten challenged. If I ever feel like an outsider it’s usually because I’m not American.”

So add in his "People don't think I'm black enough because I'm not tough" comments... Yeah he lost. Canadians themselves say there's racism there also.

“That was the first time I had ever gotten challenged”

If that’s what it was than that’s was it was? Lol that’s his experience...

That =/= Black people were racist to me.

Also, be sure to read what comes before that..CONTEXT.

Sound Radio show, Drake said "I always had friends from all different backgrounds, all different walks of life, we all get along. I never really notice color, religion. We don’t live like that. There’s not that much segregation in Canada, especially in Toronto. It’s a cultural mosaic. You don’t ever develop hate.”

If that’s how it is up there how can you discredit someone else’s experiences :lol like he lying or something.

Once again, Canadians speak about racism there. Drake made it sound like Toronto is some dream land where hate don't exist.

People from Toronto have said there's a "stop and frisk", police brutality, a glass economic ceiling for blacks. His experience is his. He grew up with a white mother in a white jewish neighborhood. That ain't the case for other black people in that city.

Have you been? :lol

I don’t live there so I can’t speak, but my experience going 3 times(one weekend, a week, a month) it’s defintiely a diff vibe. It’s like Austin without the racist parts, but better

I don't have to go. :lol

Even if I have been I don't live there. I listen to people from there tell me what it's like.
