Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

Potna’s not wrong at all. :lol

Ultimate wave rider. But I also blame others for allowing him to continue doing it, because there are so many examples of dude riding said waves and then leaving folks out to dry when their moment is coming to an end.

Block boy, Fetty, Young Bleu, Makonen, YK Osiris, etc. I’m sure there’s more but you get the idea.

Speaking of arena tours, have any of y’all gone to a larger scale rap show and the artist actually put on a good show? Between the crappy sound quality and the stage presence, artists should be picking venues that work for the music they make.

To be fair, all the artists you listed were only brought to the masses’ attention because of dude. Have any of them done anything with the look after? Young Bleu’s last album was decent

Not defending the wave hopping, just saying if it was really that wouldn’t they capitalized better?

Exactly my thought. Felt dude was a wave rider for a while...ILOVEMAKONEN is what sealed it for me.

But if folks gonna let him eat of their style for the chance to catch a bigger audience, so be it.

This Convo jiggin me, cuz Cudi just did the Miami Heat arena about a year ago and I was in the middle thinkin damn Cudi having it like this.

Baby tix moving 4 Miami so I guess that's that, but I guess non-major market cities ain't the move for it. Durk not surprising, besides Chicago dude catalog not built for it

Agreed with most of your response except for included Fetty in there. Fetty definitely had motion before the Drake feature. Trap Queen, which preceded My Way, was damn near the biggest song back in 2015.

But you’re speaking to my point of why some artists shouldn’t take the feature or the look. If they don’t have enough traction on their own, getting Drake on your track will practically guarantee that you’ll be remember “that dude who had a song with Drake”. :lol

Based on dude’s track record, it just seems like new comers would stand a better chance avoiding standing too close to dude, and building their own hype, because potna’s a vampire like Diddy.

Facts. What new artist got hot off his co-sign that went on to have a sustained career? Weeknd maybe but he blew up after got away from Drake.

All them new artists that he does features with once the "Drake feature" dies down their buzz dies with it. The song basically becomes his and nobody really cares about you.

I think it depends on how buzzing the artist was beforehand. I didn't know who Lil Baby was until Yes Indeed came out. Someone had to tell me this was the guy who sang My Dawg. And I heard My Dawg often enough, but I just took it as a flavor of the week Atlanta rapper.

Granted, I don't be deep into the atlanta music scene to know every buzzin rapper so this could've just been a Migos situation.

Damn, Yes Indeed was like a year after My Dawg and some other joints he had and I'm not even a Lil Baby fan like that.

I know, but Nothing about My Dawg was captivating enough to make me check for his music or think he was going to be around for this long lol. **** was just background music for the day parties.

That’s what happens when you came in as an actor playing rapper, your roles switch up depending on what’s poppin

Drake said F it and just shameless and open with the wave riding now, that’s all  …N everybody wants a look from him so they let anything yo does slide

Outside of Outkast every single rapper or group outta ATL is trash. I like 21 and Jeezy but neither are anything special.

This a wild post.

Dungeon Family was a good album
Killer Mike gotta couple good albums,
I liked the Slim Calhoun album.
TI got mad joints.
Field Mob crazy nice, my second favorite duo (somewhat Atlanta)
Ludacris
Jermaine Dupri
Yung Joc first album was hard

Gotta be missing a few

Folks gonna scoff at me, cuz they already had traction. But Drake took Migos to a national level. I don't think Migos hits these commercials they way they did, as soon as they did, without the Drake cosign.

That's why this convo is tricky. Drake is ******* with artist, or at least songs, that already have traction. He ain't helping a complete nobody.

From 2013 to 2015 Migos had some hot and cold moments. Their first album flopped. Bad and Boujee took Migos to that superstar level.

This like when people give Drake credit for Future, ASAP and Kendrick's success. :lol
