Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

Drake is too popular for the project to not be a commercial success.

He is also not talented enough and too successful for it be an extremely creative or a project with any longevity. The women are going to like it, it will get used for IG captions, might have a few tracks you can play in the function.

That's it. That's what he will produce. I don't understand why people expect more from him. This is who he is. Drake's target audience is 22-28 year women. It's not happening.

I mean.

Gates music fell off a cliff. Dude can rap but his beat selection and song structure be terrible now.

also I’d still take down fat Jorja, RAW, and hold her hand in public. No shame over here
Only The Generals Pt. 2 was one of the best projects that dropped in 2020. Khaza had some joints but didn’t live up to the hype, imo. I don’t think he fell of though, at least not yet.

Hammerjacks in 02-05……..that hole in the wall spot, no thanks. As usual BMORE dudes are always a bit late. YOU wasn’t at The Ritz, Platinum, and more importantly DC Live from 99-02 and it shows champ. BMore saw and heard what DC dudes were doing…….jumped back on the parkway to head home and created their life. You’re welcome.

My guy, I was 9 years old in 1999.

Go back to sleep with your old grumpy ***

A simple “I wasn’t there and really didn’t know” would suffice champ. No need to catch feelings and get upset. Just giving you a history lesson. See what happens when you fact check dudes.

On a side note…….the fact that you were arguing earlier about 2Pac’s life when I now see that you were 6 years old at the time of his death is hilarious to me. You dudes have at it.

He flamed Joe but Drake gettin all spicy with Joe and Charlemagne ain’t a good look. Makes it look like the reception is getting to him

Musically, he’s declined a while ago but I feel this album is the beginning of his decline. The next project after his rest is gonna be important for him.

He didn’t flame Joe. Joe is successful. Debut album gold, Pump It Up is a monster single, Joe was the first to interact with his fans online, started Love and Hip Hop (Joe Budden TV) the first to deeply talk about depression and mental health. Joe has actually started a lot of trends today.

He also interviewed Drake early in his career and Drake was calling him a legend and talking about how much he loved Mood Muzik.

Calling someone a failure is nasty as hell. Especially when you a Jewish kid from Canada that had a TV show launch your career.

He’s doing all this social media stuff for attention…It’s just like the Charlemagne post

I think all the noise is getting to him. His last couple projects weren’t well received and sold less. His book got destroyed. Now this album getting killed for being immature and childish. His message is way too vicious to be for promo. He’s lashing out.

What’s most ironic is that Joe literally birthed Drake’s rap style along with Phonte and Hov. Lol like he’s on Comeback Season tryna sound like those three ****** :lol

Joe is a super corny and unhinged person. Great rapper though. I remember being on NT as a kid being hype over the Mood Muzik's  .

But what he said is true. What's funny is, he was overall very complimentary of Drake. However, he had some valid criticism, and Drake ends up getting real sensitive over some valid criticism.

All that he typed up doesn't change the fact that Budden's point is valid.

He's maturing in reverse. You listen to his older stuff and he sounds more mature than he is now, which is wild to say. But it makes sense. He's on top of the world, with all this money. His life consists of traveling, partying, and rotating through women, and that's where his music is at/about. He still living that young lifestyle.

It would be fine for most rappers, but for a guy that seems to want to claim a seat at the table with the greatest rappers, he probably needs to grow.

For example, I love Future's music. He's older than Drake and still talks about his typical young boy stuff, but he's not claiming to be one of the greatest or the greatest rapper ever. So the content isn't going to be as scrutinized.

That’s exactly why I don’t mess with his music now. I liked his early stuff but somehow dude regressed after Take Care. **** is just corny

To be fair, he was always corny. The difference was that he was young, so he had that excuse, acknowledged his corniness to an extent He was also hungry to prove a point, which made for better music.

Now he's a mob boss. Pusha did a number on him for sure. He's still not over it.

Plus production wise, Drake’s most recent projects aren’t touching Future’s stuff. For about 4 albums, Drake has been making the Great Value and Dollar Tree versions of his previous music. So even if some of his songs aren’t straight up bad, they’re just derivatives of what he’s already made.
