Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

I don’t really listen to Drake other than singles.

He ain’t lie about Joe but none of it was neither here nor there. Just sending shots cuz his feelings hurt and this should be obvious for anyone to see how Drake’s moved in the industry for almost 20 years now. This is not a surprise that he’d react like that after releasing his album. Dude is emotional.

Joe made plenty valid points but the criticism is no different than what dudes said about Jay for a long time. You want something from the artist that they not gonna give you anytime soon. Most popular rappers @ 37 ain’t dropping the mature grown up content especially if it ain’t in their bag.

Nah, he wasn't right.

Joe didn't have to retire. He had his lane and loyal listeners. Drake was one. Joe wasn't Gillie. It's no different than how some basketball players decide to retire and start their life after basketball instead of going team to team for vet minimum contracts.

Kendrick dropped a mature and adult album. Same with Cole and Jay always gave people songs with growth and substance. Bad comparison.

Someone a decade younger than drake is 27 this year lol

Which means that someone who’s 20-23 was barely in high school for like Views lol. They maybe remember “keke do you love me” but the generation that he had the Midas touch to is approaching or already in their 30’s

This idea that he has this stranglehold on the youth is outdated af

I keep saying that with this excuse. This would be like J Cole still making music for college kids. Those kids have families and are 30 now.

People grew up on Drake, Kendrick, Meek, Future at this point.

The issue is he's still making music of the youth and 20 year olds, because he has to chase popularity and singles because he's a pop artist. He's Lizzo and Doja Cat.

That Spanish song  Imagine if Fab made a Spanish song now because of the latin wave.

I been seeing a few people say that "y'all didn't complain when Jay did it" what exactly did Hov do that Drake is doing?

People would criticize Hov for his songs being too mature, especially when 444 came out. I don't get where they going with that.

The content isn’t the main issue. The quality just isn’t there. It’s purposely watered down to appeal to many crowds.

It has to be.

Nobody demands classic albums and bars. They talk about how much someone sold the first week. Not quotables.

And I think it's some Andre 3000 going on. If Drake tried to hit us with bars and raps for an entire album. Imagine his reaction if the public thought it was mid? His out is, I wasn't trying to do it in the first place.

Of course yo had to catch a piece of that Sexy Red wave throwing shorty on there too n made the most predictable song you could with her :lol :{ …He really been coasting on 75% effort for a min now but fans let him get away with it

Like I said he cracked the code on selling without going all in. Purists know he can really rap if he focused on it but his current formula sells and has been selling so there’s no incentive to go away from it. Drake is sea-doo wave rider doing it to perfection.
