That color and background story gimmick with that pending release is definitely predicated on Kobe Bryant wearing that model in that color during his sneaker free agency period for the 2002-03 season after he bought his way out of his contract with Adidas after the 2001-02 season. I recall he wore multiple brands during the 2002-03 to make a decision on which one to sign with.

But I admit I can only recall him wearing the Answer tweaked in Lakers' colors during that season. I really don't recall him wearing the Answer IV.
