RIP Joe Paterno

One of the comments on ESPN summed up my thoughts perfectly:

great football coach, but even though he didnt actually molest children, he contributed to it by allowing sandusky to remain on campus with access to locker rooms after it was reported to him what had happened. that will be my lasting impression of him for allowing this to go on.

People who are passionately against him are being collectively short-sighted in failing to acknowledging how great of a person he was.

People who are passionately in support of him are being collectively naïve in thinking that Joe's hands are washed clean because he followed protocol.

And that's why, like I said earlier in the thread, I find it disturbing for anyone to be passionately and adamantly on either side of the issue.

- If your overwhelming opinion of Joe is one of criticism, but you do recognize that he was a great man, I can respect that (and that describes my opinion). But if you want him condemned to the darkest depths of hell, and you HONESTLY think that he is just as guilty as the people who ACTUALLY committed these crimes, I find that disturbing.
- If your overwhelming opinion of Joe is one of support, but you recognize that he ##%%*! up big time considering his status as a human deity, I can respect that. But if the criticism against him is hard for you to stomach and you wan no ill to be spojen of him and you want him to remain in this perfect image you had of him before, I find that disturbing.
