RoomMate or own Spot

Been thinking about this.

Don't think i could live with my friends and def couldn't live with some random person.

I think i could only move with one of my brothers.

Or a serious gf, if i had one :lol

If I had the money, own spot no question. If I didn't, roommate.

I've got a room mate now; I've had my own spot before

It basically comes down to the finances

Keep a room mate; pay $500 a month, share a bathroom etc

Own spot; $1170 a month, great view, dope apartment, washer dryer, brand new apartment.

What would you do?

Located in DC by the way
for that kind of money in the dmv, I know you living somewhere crappy

depends, if you're out most of the day and need a spot just to sleep then roommate, the extra money comes in handy. if you're working less and chilling out in your apartment frequently, then your own spot.

Depends on ur current financial situation imo... Especially if it's super beneficial to both parties.

I've lived alone for a little over a year, and with roommates (currently with a couple). If you are young and don't have a fiance/girlfriend/wife, then go with a roommate, its cool to have someone to chill with sometimes. Also teaches you how to confront people and handle bad situations if they ever turn up. Living alone can get really lonely too, with a roomate you both can watch some random as.s movie or tv shows. Might introduce you to new things.

If you are with wifey then nah, nothing better than having the place to yourselves at all times. :smokin

Yea I lived by myself before sometimes it does get lonely, but I just don't think 2 grown men should be living together and sharing a bathroom

Really depends on your age, how much money you have and what stage of life your in.

Living in NYC, 1100 will not get you your own place. That gets you a decent room in BK, and a closet sized room in Manhattan. I live in BK and pay 780 for a room with a patio, but I have 4 roommates and a makeshift kitchen (no windows, no stove ventilation). It only works because rent us semi affordable, my roommates are all 26-32 and live their own mature lives, so the place has always had a certain standard of cleanliness and order.

a lot of my friends try to cuff chicks, move very fast and move in together after a couple months. I used to laugh, but if you combine what I pay in rent in BK, and what my girl pays in rent in Queens, we would be able to join forces and rent a nice 1 bedroom in Manhattan for the same price. Disclaimer, we'd all rather live the solo bachelor life if we could afford it :lol :{

This thread has me on craigslist looking for one bedroom spots.

Average asking price in my area is $1300-1500/month (utilities included) for a decent studio apartment.  Think I'll just tough it out and renew the lease for one more year.

Do you have a decent amount in savings and have you budgeted for the increased rent? If so and you're just tired of living with someone, go for it.

As a single 25 year old, how much is a decent amount?

3 months of expenses (including rent) should be your bare minimum. Living by yourself is cool, but all of the responsibility is on your shoulders. Don't put yourself in a bad situation to chase a perception of increased freedom or independence. Living solo isn't worth struggling for.

What I'm paying to live with roommates makes it hard for me to move out. I'm in NoVA and paying $600 for a room in a nice condo. Anytime I look for a solo spot of the same quality, it is over $1,100 unless, I want to live in the basement of a single family house. I'm home about half the month, so I'm just using those savings for an emergency fund and to travel.

I hate the SF Bay Area rent. I'm looking at 2,500 + parking + utilities = 3k total for a very normal non amazing one bedroom in the city.

Gotta bite the bullet though - I can do in 5 years what it takes most people 10+ years when it comes to career progression with the job opportunities out here.
