[font=Arial, Helvetica]He said Taylor's father called him around 5:30 a.m. to tell him the news.[/font]

[font=Arial, Helvetica]"His father called and said he was with Christ and he cried and thanked me," said Sharpstein, Taylor's former lawyer. "It's a tremendously sad and unnecessary event. He was a wonderful, humble, talented young man, and had a huge life in front of him. Obviously God had other plans."[/font]

[font=Arial, Helvetica]Doctors had been encouraged late Monday night when Taylor squeezed a nurse's hand. But Sharpstein said he was told Taylor never regained consciousness after being transported to the hospital and that he wasn't sure how he had squeezed the nurse's hand.[/font]

[font=Arial, Helvetica]"Maybe he was trying to say goodbye or something," Sharpstein said.[/font]

According to the Miami Herald, Taylor and his girlfriend were awakened by noises in his $900,000 home. He grabbed a machete from under his bed and went to investigate when an armed intruder burst in the bedroom door and fired two shots, one of which hit the inside of Taylor's leg and pierced his femoral artery, the paper said.

Taylor was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, where he underwent surgery, the Herald said. The gunman is still on the loose and Taylor's lawyer told the paper that nothing was stolen from the house. Sharpstein also told the Herald that the couple's baby was in the bedroom and slept through the incident.
