Should I make a purchase? 2011 BMW 328i xDrive Sedan

Since I'm pretty much in DipsetGeneral's position and I'm not getting any advice in the car thread, I'll post in here.

I have $5k saved up, looking to buy straight cash and get rid of this minivan. I was looking at the 7th gen Honda Accord, but everyone keeps warning me about the ****** issues.

From what I've heard, 8th gen is usually the way to go for Honda.

Depends... looking for V6? Then yes, but a simple maintenance like changing the ATF fluid every 10,000 miles does the trick.

But if you looking into 4 bangers... dude those last FOREVER! Plus you never have to change the belt, because they have a chain.

So youre buying a car without going to look at it? I am assuming this because why else would you need it shipped if you can go look at it yourself. If that was the case you'd drive it home.

Luxury or not doesn't mater. I am using this car for two years the most. By then i'll have saved up enough money to buy something I really want.

No you wont. Not with $1300 a month, bills, and expenses (shopping, food, etc.)

If you get an Accord, Civic whatever, it will last you way longer than 2 years and then hopefully by then you can get a better job so you can THEN start saving up for something you really want.

Just cause you have the money saved up doesnt mean you can afford the car. Cost of ownership is going to be tough with only $1300 a month.

It does matter.

I read an article a couple of years ago from a prominent auto magazine. (I can't remember which and its not really pertinent).

But the author's main point, which has stuck with me forever was that, "A $40,000 automobile may depreciate to the point where it costs $12000, but when it comes to repairs, it's still a $40,000 automobile"

If that is the case then why are you spending so much for a car. You plan on keeping a car for two years, you shouldnt be spending more than 2k on it. Becuase when you get rid of that to get the car you want you arent going to get nearly what you paid for it.
