He certainly doesn't help the situation. AI dominates the ball and it's like a power struggle to produce the most offense between him, Melo and JRSmith, and even Kenyon sometimes. AI is also a huge liability on the defensive end. Not only does he not pick up his man on a rotation, not only is he toosmall to defend most 2 guards in the league (and a lot of PG's too), but he also attempts a lot of steals. Where he gets a lot of steals, he also missesalot and those attempts leave the rest of the team 4 on 5 usually resulting in an easy pass and a bucket for the opposition. Getting rid of AI is a step inthe right direction to try to build the Nuggets into a team again on both ends of the court. It will also shave 20 mil off the books and put us well below thecap.

I'm also not entirely opposed to Kidd for AI, but Kidd is only temporary, he doesn't have much left in him as we've all seen. The Nuggets need apoint guard that can last a while and develop alongside the many young members on our team.

AI is also a huge liability on the defensive end. Not only does he not pick up his man on a rotation, not only is he too small to defend most 2 guards in the league (and a lot of PG's too), but he also attempts a lot of steals. Karl's D scheme was set up for the team to be able to gamble for steals since they had Camby in the back to clean up. Everyone on the team gambled. Thisyear they don't have Camby back there so the scheme has to change. And NOBODY on the team picked up there man on rotation. The main problem was TEAMdefense and the stagnet offense. The offense consisted of one on one play and no ball movement. Ofcourse its hard to maintain a good offense with AnthonyCarter at the helm, they should of kept Blake.

Blake was nice, I wanted to keep him. Hell, I never wanted to give up Miller.

The whole team gambled on steals? Maybe, but AI did it more than the rest of the team combined and his missed attempts allowed a LOT of wide open, easyperimeter shots from the opposition.

And the lack of defensive rotation cannot be blamed solely on the players, Karl does not coach that stuff. He doesn't coach any set offense either. Hiscoaching consists of fast breaks and forced turnovers. That's it. No set plays, no pick and roll, no defensive rotations, no perimeter coverage, just runand score. This system works well for AI, but not so well for the rest of the team, especially come playoff time. This is one problem I have with the AIsituation. When he was brought in, there were these expectations that he would adapt his game to the team, but what happened is the team adapted to him andjust let him dominate the ball.

Don't get me wrong, I think Iverson is maybe one of the best individual guards to ever play the game, but he's just not a good fit for the Nuggets. Ifhe is replaced by a player who is willing to play defense, we will be better off. We'll still have the scoring abilities to spread the floor with Melo, JR,and Nene down low.

"I've never seen a young person - and this is my 12th year in the NBA - work harder and is more opened to being coached than Roy," [Coach JimO'Brien] said last month about Hibbert.

Hibbert has been blocking shots but is working on staying on his feet so he doesn't get pump-faked into foul trouble.Tuesday's first practice revealed glimpses of the potential and the problems. He'll also be facing more physical post players than in college, but hesaid he's looking forward to that.

"I like it a lot, actually," he said. "They let you bang in the post here. In college, I go up against 6-8 centers most of the time. Just to geta chance to be physical and bang in there is enticing."
Walker Never Thought He'd Be A Wizard
NEWPORT, R.I. - Bill Walker was a tad confused when the Washington Wizards drafted him No. 47 overall in last summer's draft but he had a good ideawhere he'd wind up - anywhere but Washington.

"I didn't work out with them. I knew it wasn't possible that I would go there," Walker said on Wednesday from Salve Regina University, where the Boston Celtics are training to defend their NBA championship, "All I know is they wanted me here."

You can't miss what you never had. (Photo by Brian Babineau/NBAE/Getty Images)

The Wizards immediately swapped the pick to Boston for a nice, six-figure check without giving it much thought. Some - including Memphis General ManagerChris Wallace - consider Walker a possible steal in the draft since it wasn't too long ago that Walker was ranked one of the best players in thecountry.

Walker grew up with O.J. Mayo, the No. 3 pick of the NBA draft, in Huntington, W.Va., and played with him at North College Hill High School in Cincinnati. At Kansas State, he teamed with Michael Beasley, the second overall pick. And, before injuries derailed him - he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in hisright knee (in 2003) and left knee (in 2007) - Walker was once on the same path as his two former teammates.

"This is all our dreams, no matter how we got here. Right now, we're on a mission to make our mark," Walker said.

After averaging 16.3 points and 6.3 rebounds as a redshirt freshman last season at Kansas State, the 6-foot-6 forward was considered a possible lottery pickbefore suffering a knee injury during a workout with Golden State less than two weeks before the draft. The injury pushed the redshirt freshman out of thefirst round, but he elected to stay in the draft.

"Circumstances happened for me to be in the second round. I don't feel that I'm a second round talent at all," said Walker, who had histhird surgery in five years last July. "Circumstances changed everything. I don't second guess my decision. I feel that I have an NBA game and I madethe best decision. I'm with the right team. I'll learn how to play the game right. I hope I can make a career out of it."

Walker is learning quickly about the NBA during training camp, where he is sometimes matched up against NBA Finals MVP Paul Pierce. "A lot of guysdon't get to come to an organization like this, with these kind of players, to have a chance to win [a championship]," Walker said. "I'mthankful for the opportunity. It's a grind. It's totally different than anything that I've done. Just the speed of the game. They throw a lot ofstuff at you. You've just got to adjust."

Walker likely won't see much playing time with the Celtics, but he wasn't ready to say that the rookie of the year will go to either Beasley orMayo. "I heard Greg Oden is going to be rookie of the year," Walker said, mentioning that he faced Oden often in AAU. "He's a monster. He's the man. I'm going with Greg Oden."

Former highlottery pick Shaun Livingston is on the verge of signing a contract with the Miami Heat, according to a report in the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

It is believed that Livingston will meet with the Heat on Friday where he will sign a contract. Agent Henry Thomas said earlier thisweek that Livingston was "leaning toward Miami."

The move may mean more moves are on the horizon for the Heat, with Pat Riley trying to keep his ball club away from the luxury tax.According to the report Miami may try to trade away Daequan Cook or Dorell Wright for nothing in return.

Sidelined since a devastating knee injury in the middle of the 2006-07 season, the 6-foot-7 playmaker was not retained as a free agentthis summer by the Clippers, who drafted him directly out of high school with the No. 4 overall selection in 2004.
Raptors LoveO'Neal's Presence In Paint
Oct 03, 2008 9:59 AM EST

tor_40.gif
The Raptors areexcited about the shot blocking ability that Jermaine O'Neal will bring to the paint after they felt as though teams drove easily against them lastseason.

"You know those times last year, when we'd play excellent defense for 22 seconds and they'd get the ball and lay itin?" guard Anthony Parker said. "It's like getting hit in the stomach, you know?

"Having him there with Chris [Bosh] saves those moments, those setbacks, when you do all the right things and but don'tsecure the ball."

Toronto can rely on playing into his strength often, so he can help some of their weaker defenders.

"He can block shots for sure," guard Jose Calderon said. "The good thing about it, you know you can force a bit moreand he can help you."

However, coach Sam Mitchell doesn't want his players taking O'Neal for granted.

"It makes guys want to be better defensively," Mitchell said. "Because even if [O'Neal] blocks shots and stuff likethat, it only takes someone getting beat so many times before he's going to go 'Wait a minute, I'm back here to help you, but you have to do yourjob, too. I'm just in case, not all day long. You've still got to guard your guy.' So if he's back there doing his job, then you have to doyour job."
Ford: Pacers Could Have TopPG Tandem
Oct 03, 2008 9:54 AM EST

ind_40.gif
T.J. Fordbelieves that he and Jarrett Jack can form one of the top point guard tandems in the league.

"We definitely could be one of the top tandems in the league," Ford said. "Coming into the places I've been, nobodyfelt the point guard was going to be that dominant in Toronto and Milwaukee, and look at what we turned it into. I don't see why the same thing won'thappen here."

Coach Jim O'Brien is thrilled to hear Ford's expectations, considering that the team has been weak at point in recentyears.

"I thought our biggest hole was at the point guard spot because Jamaal's history was that he got injured a lot,"O'Brien said. "Andre (Owens) didn't work out as well. At the end of the year, we were bringing in people off the waiver wire. That's not agood situation to have."
