So D'Angelo played in Stockholm today..

I'm kinda mad this isn't bigger and nicer. I'm sure D and his crew have nicer ones. This is what some staff got.

I also think to myself how ridiculous that CD in there is going to look in a few years.....proud to have it though.

This is arguably as good as the original Earth, Wind, & Fire jawn...From D's 1996 Live At The Jazz Cafe EP...

. There is not one dude in R&B right now that has 1/8 of the swagger or artistry D has. No one.

D has notched up even more cool points with me. He covered David Bowie's Space Oddity in Paris & it's not bad...Here's the latest entry to the tour diary that OkayPlayer is keeping, link here.

You may have noticed me using the header Mixtape Mondays on a few posts recently–something we intend to  make a semi-regular feature here at Okayplayer. We figured we would kick it off properly with an actual OKP mixtape; something official, something original, something exclusive. Something worthy to place alongside DJ Soul‘s incredible Best of Common and Dilla mixtapes. And then we was like, Hmm what’s happening the last monday in January that we could use as a theme? Superbowl? Newt Gingrich? Or MAYBE the phoenix-like reemergence of our beloved D’Angelo, who is currently spreading his fiery musical wings across the waters in Europe.

Accordingly, we asked super-thorough DJ/producer and Soulquarian obsessive Sam Champ (you may remember the tough remix of “Left & Right

sick, how'd i miss this, sounds like the original.

D hit up the UK to play at Brixton Academy. Okayplayer posted a review, link here to the story below. They also posted some performances which I'll post seperately. Sounds like he & the band have already hit their form. Damn, can't wait till he hits the states....

Some people are impossible to please.

During the encore chant at D’Angelo’s second London performance, a group of middle-aged men objected to the apparent regurgitation of old material. But in the same crowd I met people who had flown from New York to hear the “Chicken Grease

D was THAT dude. Hopefully he stays clean, at least clean enough to keep making music

Great stuff posted here...thanks fellas.  Listened to voodoo all weekend thanks to this thread

love this song but this aint the version on the space jam soundtrack

Got the GQ issue yesterday and the interview is a very good read. New D'Angelo is always appreciated. Dude looks clean hopefully it stays that way.

That story about Angie Stone was cold man...I was also thinking why didn't Clapton offer the rehab free since it's his facility unless he didn't think D was serious at the time (the article/interview clearly says he wasn't serious about cleaning up either)...

Need to check that GQ interview out, glad to see my dude is getting it back together. Now we just need another album.

I really don't care for David Sanborn but found this on youtube. D covering the Bill Withers classic with Sanborn & Clapton...Dude has more soul in his pinky than all of these young cats out right now (mulitplied times a billion).

I hope he's on the straight and narrow...LONG overdue for another masterpiece.

I saw this on another board (when folks were going back and forth on a D'Angelo/R.Kelly debate)...and I have to agree

D'Angelo not so much. He is a different kind of artist,....more complex. Less about commercialism and more about artistic statement.

Got flamed here on NT, but I've ALWAYS felt he's the superior talent.

R Kelly has sold more records & has more hits, but D'Angelo is much more talented & soulful. Shoot, he help define soul music again.
