'Spider-Man' Spinoff: Silver Sable, Black Cat Movie Finds Director with 'Secret Life of Bees' Filmmaker

'Silver and Black' has an October 2018 release date.

Gina Prince-Bythewood, who wrote and directed The Secret Life of Bees, will direct Silver and Black, Sony's Spider-Man offshoot that centers on characters Silver Sable and the Black Cat.

Matt Tolmach and Amy Pascal are producing the project, which has an October 2018 release date and is planning for a fall start.

Chris Yost, who worked on the upcoming Marvel movie Thor: Ragnarok, is writing the most recent draft. Lisa Joy, the co-creator of HBO's Westworld, also worked on the script.

Silver Sable, created by Tom DeFalco and Ron Frenz in 1985, is a mercenary who runs a company that hunts war criminals. The character has been both antagonist and ally to Spider-Man.

Black Cat, an acrobatic cat burglar whose real name is Felicia Hardy, has a long and tangled romantic history with Spider-Man in the comics. The character was cut from scripts for the Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy, and a "Felicia Hardy" (played by Felicity Jones) briefly appeared in Amazing Spider-Man 2, though no Black Cat connection was ever made explicit.

Sony is rebooting Spider-Man this summer with Spider-Man: Homecoming and hopes to launch a slate of Spider-Man-related movies. The first project, Venom, is already off and running, having snagged Tom Hardy as star and Ruben Fleischer as director. While Spider-Man is firmly in Marvel's cinematic universe, Sony's offshoots will stand apart.

Prince-Bythewood won acclaim and awards with her feature debut, the 2000 drama Love and Basketball. The writer-director has had her feet mostly planted in the drama world and on top of helming Secret Life of Bees also directed the romantic drama Beyond the Lights, which starred Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Nate Parker.

She co-created the crime drama Shots Fired, which is currently airing on Fox, and is due to direct the pilot for Cloak & Dagger, Freeform's television series based on the Marvel Comics teen heroes.

See, I thought they were making 2 separate films. One solo Black Cat movie and then one Silver Sable movie.

Combining them together I'm not sure about.

BC is a thief, sometimes villain, sometimes hero, a bit of an anti-hero in the cartoon. SS is a mercenary and freedom fighter for her country.

So unless Cat is about to rob SS's country and some other villain gets in the mix I don't see it.

Krqven and Spider-Woman being in it just makes me scratch my head :lol

At least it seems like Sony does own some if not all of the Spider-Woman rights.

I even thought of an idea to get around Spidey's absence in these movies.

Sony's SCU > DCEU :Nthat

I have full faith that Marvel will have their hands on the Sony villain films. If nothing else they HAVE to be involved in the designs of the costumes

sony just has to duplicate Fox's blueprint & they'll be good.

they should be in a better position cuz Spider is MCU.

SILVER & BLACK Rumored To Include Kraven The Hunter, Spider-Woman And More SPIDER-MAN Characters

A plot outline for the upcoming Spider-Man spinoff starring Black Cat and Silver Sable has been revealed and it features a storyline crammed full of cameos and references to Peter Parker's world.

Splash Report has a source who's reportedly given them an outline of the story and while it actually sounds pretty cool, there are probably a long list of reasons why this intel will annoy fans of Spider-Man.

"Seven years after Mendel Stromm (a.k.a. Robot Master) and his two henchmen (The Scorpion and The Tarantula) killed her father, Silver Sable is hired by the government to find Felicia Hardy. The Black Cat, a master hacker and thief, has apparently stolen valuable secret information. She’s hiding in the lawless and dangerous triple frontier area between Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil.

Once there, Sable ask her old contact Dmitri Smerdyakov (a.k.a. The Chameleon) to locate her. But it seems, the government are not the only ones looking for the Black Cat. It seems Felicia had made a deal Stromm to save her father from a Russian prison and she’s been genetically enhanced. Now, the mad scientist wants his prized experiment back because his financier (cough Norman Osborn cough) wants a return on his investment."

The site goes on to mention that we'll also be introduced to Dominic Fortune, Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman, Sergei Kravinoff/Kraven the Hunter, Lonnie Lincoln/Tombstone, and Charles Standish.
This is leaning on fanfic. Just crammed with Spidey Easter eggs from allies to villains. It reminds me of the rumored idea for the Batman movie that was just filled with Batman villains and Deathstroke :lol

Gotta see this to believe it.

:lol @ Fox blueprint

Sony gonna need better than that. Underachieving like Fox is what originally made them make the deal with Marvel in the first place.

I figure if they actually intend to initially not include Spider in these spinoffs itsncuz they want to build up to his debutbafter the contract rubs out with those 3 MCU Spidey movies. So Venom is off doing his thing, Black Cat and Sable have their own adventures, S6 is building up, etc.

Plus that gives time for Peter to age and be a bit older when he does show up instead if these ppl interacting with a young teen. He can at least be in his early 20s.

fox is making bread underachieving, Sony can't even be competent on that level. :lol

X-men have LOADS of mutants to work with, Sony only has a SMALL pool of characters, like i said, their best bet is to wink wink nod to Spidey being in da movies as da bridge to things that happen in da MCU.

What are you talking about?

Sony was easily making bank with their underachieving Spider-Man movies.

When I say Fox is underachieving I'm talking about how much they are making compared to how much they should be making and they have all the mutants at their disposal. They don't have one movie that's even touched a billion or got close.

That **** is pathetic. We're talking about the X-Men. They got one great Wolverine movie and at best one good X-Men movie.

They just may have permanently hobbled their chances of ever seeing success the way the MCU have.

Sony still has a chance to do their thing in that regard. So no, they shouldn't be following any Fox blueprint if the end goal is to rake in billions. Why you think they did the deal with Marvel in the first place? They looking to get some of that MCU success to rub off on them.

I wanna see Spider-man with the symbiote THE RIGHT WAY more than I want to see it on Eddie Brock again

because they're in da worst position outta all of da studios, Sony has mediocre movies AND a shallow character roster.

they could mess around and have da timeline set waaaay after da events of da MCU and have a more grown Spider-Man introduce venom in their movies.

Just cuz we getting a Venom movie first doesn't mean we won't see black suit Spider-Man at some point.

Some of yall are too hung up on the sequence events when we know the movies always tend to do things differently.

problem is venom's origins are inextricably linked to spiderman, da set up has to be perfect or else its gonna fail.

What if the symbiote suit is in Homecoming after Tony takes the high tech suit away but they've been guarding that carefully?

:lol Yeah, you talking out your ***.

FoX-Men make the same mediocre movies and squander their character roster.

Sony currently is in a better position than Fox and DC just cuz they did the deal with the MCU.

The small roster is irrelevant when they have Spider-Man. Spider-Man movies make more than X-Men movies on average.

problem is venom's origins are inextricably linked to spiderman, da set up has to be perfect or else its gonna fail.
That's really only if you're still hung up on the comic origins.

I'd rather them give it to us in infinity war. Go to space and get it. Have the collector have it in a case or have the Guardians bring it to earth after they discover the planet like the Bendis comics. The story is right in front of them. They'd literally have to go out their way to give the symbiote a different origin
