The week before major movies is the worst. Spoilers, fake spoilers, Nerd Outrage over things that are probably fake, Nerd Outrage without seeing the movie. Its all about the execution.

Anyway, I'm really excited!

I see a lot of you asked to be spoiled and I can’t get to everyone so if you click this button know that there no turning around. The leak has been confirmed as real after days of shock and disbelief

-Rey is literally a nobody. Her parents are supposedly random junkers.

-Yoda talks to Luke and convinces him along with a hologram from R2 of Leia’s message to obi-wan to train Rey.

-Benecio Del Toro’s character is literally a nobody who Phasma kills.

-Finn defeats Phasma and Phasma falls to her death.

-Kylo cuts Snoke in half for trying to torture Rey.

-Kylo is intrigued by Rey and tries to offer her a position at his side (maybe as lovers?) and Rey turns him down.

-Kylo and Luke dual.

- The twist: Luke is still on the island and is projecting his image across the galaxy to fight Kylo. Luke expends too much Force energy and “dies” which is ambiguous.

-Garbage.

 if that is true, people are mad over nothing to me.

Can't wait to this

Between the fandom and the feminists, I don’t think Star Wars survives this. They dropped the ball BIG TIME. The profound respect I have for Mark Hamill is unlimited. He’s been trying to us the whole time this movie is trash...

"I don't think star wars survives this"

There's no way in hell its gonna be worse than any of the prequels and it survived.

I think it just sounds bad but will look better.
Reviews are too positive for this to kill star wars.

Would have to be bad EPICALLY

 possibly one of the most extreme statements I've ever read on this board.
you mean the films, won't survive??
the novels and comics books??
They cancelling Star Wars Celebration?
upcoming TV shows?
They closing Star Tours as we speak and scrapping plans for Star Wars Land?

I find your lack of faith disturbing

Also everything I read I'm fine with, they really didn't even touch on what story beats I actually want to know. What were people expecting though? The entire point to having different directors was to get their viewpoint on how things go down.

Still think everyone is overreacting.

When I say “survive” I mean in continuing to galvanize pop culture the way it does. Of course the brand will bring in tons of money for the rest of our foreseeable lives but I’m convinced that after TLJ Star Wars won’t have the same impact it once did. This generation will look at Star Wars as some Flash Gordon nonsense and will worship the Marvel cinematic universe as there soap opera on screen. Are you guys realizing everything you just read completely undermines The Force Awakens? Like that movie will be complete nonsense to watch now on top of it trying to find its identity outside of being A New Hope rehash. This ST was literally made with no plan, just corporate suits exploiting any thing Star Wars. Finn was used to play on our emotions. He has inexplicably been moved out the paint with nothing to do. His romance angle with Rey got chopped at the knees had to be curtailed to Rose. Phasma? Pointless. Holdo? Pointless. Benecio Del Toro’s character? Pointless. Snoke? Pointless. Rey? She’s being called Jane Eyre in space. This is about to get bad fellas.

My god what did I just read....hope that **** ain't true.

Fam.....

Again, without seeing the movie itself and just going on the words of random people on the internet, I think you're overreacting.

Now after you see it and feel the same way, Cool.

Im still gonna be a Star Wars fan till the day i die. It was such a huge part of my up bringing. I believe most people probably feel that way.

It will be seen but only in hoping that none of this comes to pass. I left out a lot of details like dialogue and the cringe moments people are complaining about as well. If what I’m reading is what’s portrayed on screen, I’ll personally be crushed.

You have every right to be. Just want us to lower pitchfolks until we've seen the movie. That's all. No need to get worked up over possibly nothing.

Why will you be crushed?

Because it shows me that nothing is sacred. Even something like Star Wars can be manipulated by corporate greed. There’s a precedent that George Lucas created. Hate him or love him, he created this world and these heroes. How do you come in and just tear all of that down? For what? Return of the Jedi had a happy ending for these people. Why bring them back only to show how miserable and hopeless there lives have become. You literally turned Luke Skywalker into a failure when he walked off into the (Binary) sunset a hero. Set your Shareholder Wars story 100 years in the future and tell your story but using these characters that people love as a cheap trick to sell your new story and then destroying them and there characterization to establish your new regime. That’s just ****** up man, honestly.

I just can’t for the life of me believe that this is the direction Rian Johnson chose to go. Like how tf does this get signed off on?

I don't agree.

Obi wan died in the FIRST movie.
Vader in the 3rd.

How long should Luke live??

Also.....imho...lucas did damage to star wars with some of those prequels....to me he lessened the Vader character.

I LIKE the position luke is in now....the "not happy ending " because all too often that's what you get and it's predictable.

Im not passing any judgement until I see this thing

lamekilla lamekilla Fam this is a fantasy movie and the original core are aging and/or deceased. You will see at least one possibly two reboots in your lifetime.

Have to agree with some of you...In writing it sounds bad...In the context of the movie it could be very good...

Speaking on Luke...

Friend of mine saw a press screening for it last night...He said that he would better describe Luke as transitioning rather than dying...Luke is apparently fully ready to move on because he cries and has an almost relieved / happy look on his face when it happens...

The last thing Luke says to Kylo is See you later kid in a kind of way that’s basically telling him they’ll continue this fight another time...

He fully expects Luke to be in the next movie and not just in the typical force ghost capacity we’ve seen in the past...

Excellent review

So, before we talk about The Last Jedi, let’s talk about The Empire Strikes Back for just a moment. Have you ever tried to describe the plot of The Empire Strikes Back to anyone? Using just a couple of sentences, it always sounds like a terrible movie. Now, the original Star Wars sounds fun: “A small group of freedom fighters comes together to destroy the evil Empire’s ultimate weapon.” But The Empire Strikes Back sounds more like this: “The evil Empire discovers where the Rebels are hiding, the Rebels all fly away in different directions.” The Empire Strikes Back doesn’t have a traditional plot, which is why it earned the most tepid reviews of the original three movies upon its initial release in 1980. Of course, time has been kind to The Empire Strikes Back, often now considered the best Star Wars movie made, even surpassing the original. It’s a movie that focuses on character development instead of plot. It’s the movie where we really get to know what drives Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, Han Solo and Darth Vader.
Considering his past work, it shouldn’t be a huge surprise to learn that director Rian Johnson uses the Empire template for The Last Jedi. The nice thing that comes with using The Empire Strikes Back as a starting point is that a movie can basically doanything. This isn’t like The Force Awakens, which uses a lot of the same plot points from the original Star Wars. Instead, it puts our heroes in jeopardy the whole movie – a relentless two and a half hours of tension – separates them, and explores who they are and what they’re fighting for. Like Empire, our big three – now Rey, Finn and Poe – do not spend a lot of time together on screen, which of course just makes us want to see them all somehow reunite.

There were events in The Force Awakens that would be considered massive spoilers, most notably the fate of Han Solo. J.J. Abrams is notorious for keeping secrets, to a fault. But it’s kind of telling for a couple of reasons that the plot of The Force Awakens was pretty much everywhere months before the movie came out, yet now we have the comparative openness of Rian Johnson’s movie – I mean, the guy is always on Twitter answering questions – and yet few plot details leaked in advance. Princess Leia in the first Star Wars was right, “The more you tighten your grip, the more spoilers will slip through your fingers.” (That might not be a 100 percent accurate quote.) But the other thing is, there are just not a lot of things to spoil in The Last Jedi. I mean, yes, there are acouple, but there are no big, capital P, plot points to even relay. The Last Jedi is a character study.

The Last Jedi picks up mere moments after the events of The Force Awakens. Emboldened by the destruction of the Republic’s home planet in the prior film, the First Order – led by Snoke (Andy Serkis), Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and General Hux (Domhnall Gleason, hamming it up even more than he did in the last movie) – mounts an all-out attack on the Resistance’s secret base as the Resistance – led by Leia (Carrie Fisher, in her last performance, and it’s a great one) and Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) – tries to evacuate. Finn (John Boyega) teams up with Rose (Kelly Marie Tran), a Resistance maintenance worker, on a mission that takes them to a beautiful casino planet where they meet a code breaker played by Benicio del Toro (basically the Lando of this movie). Meanwhile, Rey (Daisy Ridley) is still on the remote planet of Ahch-To, trying to convince Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) that she’s worthy to be trained in the ways of the force. (See, I told you an Empire template is being used here.) This is literally almost the entire plot of The Last Jedi. But, again, “plot” is not what The Last Jedi is going for. What’s important in The Last Jedi is what happens to, and what we find out about, all of these characters along the way. In retrospect, The Force Awakens feels like a short introduction to these characters. After The Last Jedi, I feel like I’ve gone on a week-long road trip with them all.

I suspect, once the dust settles, The Last Jedi might be divisive – at least in the way that Empire was in that it doesn’t follow the traditional structure of a Star Wars movie. Where The Force Awakens felt like a movie by committee, The Last Jedi really does feel like one person’s vision of what a Star Warsmovie should be. It doesn’t tick off the corporate studio boxes that are surefire, go to “crowd pleasers” (even though there are many crowd-pleasing moments). In a lot of ways, The Last Jedi is a weird movie. And I’m sure the word “dark” will be thrown around, but it’s not “dark.” Just like The Empire Strikes Back isn’t “dark.” Now, A Serbian Film, that’s a dark movie. The Empire Strikes Backand The Last Jedi are both well-made Star Wars movies with a lot of humor, where also some bad things happen to characters we like. In fact, The Last Jedi is so funny at times, I could also see that element being divisive. But people forget how funny the original trilogy actually is. In Empire, Han Solo and C-3PO are basically doing a vaudeville routine.

This is a complaint for another time, but The Last Jedi continues the trend of not knowing what to do with C-3PO and R2-D2. Even back in the ‘80s, George Lucas said that the two droids would be the through-line of all the different movies – the only characters to appear in them all. And technically that’s true, but they are such an integral part of the original trilogy – they actually contributed to the plot – yet ever since The Phantom Menace, their presence feels more like extended cameos.)

In The Last Jedi, there’s a continuing theme of destroying what came before to make room for something new. This could be taken a lot of ways, especially since Kylo Ren is the one in favor of this idea. It’s a movie about change and regret and getting older, but also about hope for what’s to come. (Though, part of me likes to think that destroying what came before is in direct reference to the aspects of The Force Awakens that Johnson didn’t like, because there are a few key aspects of that movie that Johnson smashes into oblivion. I look forward to Abrams trying to bring them all back in the next movie anyway.)

I’ll keep this short, but, personally, this has literally been the ****tiest time of my life. After losing my father, suddenly, a little over three weeks ago, it’s been a pretty much non-stop barrage of hurt. My father took me to see The Empire Strikes Back in 1980, my first movie. He took me to the Star Wars re-release in 1981. It was surprisingly tough to watch a new Star Wars movie this soon after, at least a lot harder than I thought it would be. But something else happened: I felt emotions that weren’t “absolute ****” for the first time in three weeks. For two and a half hours, I really did feel like I got to visit that galaxy far, far away – and good God I needed to go there. That’s the magic these movies can have. I am not someone who cries during new Star Wars movies because a character I like shows up, or whatever, but I sure did during this one. And for the first time since this all happened, that cry felt good.

we had no idea who Obi Wan was and Vader dies because at the end of the day he was still bad but only found redemption in death, the only way a mass murderer can go out. Luke is officially a failure. He failed to rebuild and reform the Jedi. He lost his faith. He has no offspring to carry on his message and becomes a force ghost for what purpose? To talk to Rey who we have no idea what she’s doing in these movies? To talk to Kylo who is the reason for him losing his faith in the first place? Like you make Rey his daughter OR you leave him alive. To kill THE Luke Skywalker with no legacy to carry on? No one with the last name Skywalker?? This isn’t Star Wars. This is ******* insane

^^

I’m of the mindset of why were they even brought back in the first place. Leave there story alone and start a complete new one. You drew us into your new story by dangling the older character we loved in front of us.

it makes absolutely no sense. A force ghost holding a lightsaber? Why didn’t Obi Wan come to help Luke fight Vader in Empire or Yoda help him fight Vader in RotJ? WHY DOESNT LUKE JUST ACTUALLY LEAVE THE ISLAND?? Like it’s an inconsistent mess plot wise. RJ ****ted on everything that’s come before this just to say he did something new. He messed up BIG time.

"This isn’t Star Wars. This is ****ing insane"

That is what I thought about the prequels lol

After reading that review i think it's gonna be good.
I have faith in the new directors though because like jj...these guys are fans.

But I mean anything is possible they could **** it up too

A Jedi Master learning a new technique breaks the world? Remember Jedi just learned about Force ghost at the end of episode 3
